Hi. I guess I may as well introduce myself.
My name's Michael, and I'm from Melbourne, VIC (that's in Australia). I'm currently studying an engineering/computer science double degree at RMIT (in my 3rd year). I absolutely adore classical music, as well as rock music (real rock music, not the crud being churned out today).
I've only recently taken a massive interest in DIY and Hi-Fi in general, and have learnt heaps from sources such as these forums. My passion is audio integrity, but I guess that'll also be my crux, as most of the projects I want to attempt (and then mod) are such that I doubt I'll go beyond the "fantasise about it" stage.
I'm sure once I graduate and get a job I'll be able to indulge myself fully. In the meantime, I'm sure I'll have heaps of fun with the kits in my budget (step one: make my PC sound good ...).

i know a hot chick fom SA? does that count? :D Melbournians do rock. So does Australia. Speaking of which, if you know the store audiophile, a family friend owns that store. Not sure what it's like or anything but yer. :)

South Oz is the place to be;
The festival State is...
Home of the best wines, best food, best restaurants, best car manufacturers - Holden & Mitsubishi and home of the best hi end speakers - Duntech, Sonique, Krix, Vaf, not to mention the best climate and lifestyle... So There! Learn from us...

Another from Perth, Western Australia.

griff, we try to keep Perth a secret from NSW & VIC, otherwise there'd be too many Melbournians and Sydneysiders coming to live here ;)
tomcat
Yeah!, I agree... Let 'em (the Eastern states) have their rat race all to themselves...
Anywhere west of Mt Gambier (the Vic border that is!) is the coolest place to be;)

best food, best restaurants,
I think "great" would have been a better word here .... I've eaten in some pretty good restaurants over east, a lot dearer than ours, but very good nonetheless!

best car manufacturers - Holden & Mitsubishi
Ooooppps! I think we just lost all credibility there :(

Actually, I've often wondered what it is about SA which has resulted in the disproportionately high concentration of good speaker manufacturers ......... no, we're probably back to the wine ;)

cheers, mark

PS: On a serious note it is good to have a decent number of people about, even if they are in different states. Makes the concept of "bulk purchase" possible with benefits to all !!

Thanks MEFINNIS for your support... those yokles E of the border don't know! and we don't want them to know because they can't see the trees for the grass. As far as Holden & Mitsubishi is concerned, I don't belong to either camp nor Ford or Toyota... I only meant in quality of finish etc, as an end product they are world class as it has been proven by their export performance...
Personally I'm a vintage buff, 60's Borgward Isabella's (bet that'll make a few scratch their heads!) and currently a '76 SAAB 99...
Cheers :D

from which German millionaire tourist did you rob it ?? :p ... :)
tomcat
No one.
Up till about ten years ago they were quite plentifull and cheap over here. I kept my car going for over ten years by buying orphaned Isabella's for parts for about AU$100 ea. At one time I had a Coupe and a sedan as my everyday car untill I wrote it off in accident with a power pole. The Coupe I partly restored (body only) but had to sell when my marriage fell apart. Since then I have restored several cars and Coupe's for others. I still have a pile of parts, body panels, front and rear axles, motors, g/boxes, etc., lying around my place even though I don't drive one anymore as I do occasional work on others cars. Matter of fact I have one of the last Coupe's made coming in the next week or two for an almost total restoration, but this detail has yet to be spelled out by the owner, because he wants to have it brought back to "pristine" condition. So he keeps telling me, but the question is how long is a piece of string? In other words how deep is his pocket, because although my rates are very reasonable (half the going rate) I know from experience the difficulties in store and it's gonna be a big job... I still love the cars and I miss driving one dearly. I have never found another car with as much character and performance for one of that vintage. They were a truly magnificent machine much under rated everywhere but in Germany or by those who have owned one....

Welcome Michael,

Just what do you mean by real rock music?....

One of my next projects will be to make my PC sound good to, we might be able to share some ideas.

Yet another Aussie here. From the Gold Coast to be precise! I've just ordered my first load of bits from Parts Express in the US and discovered that the freight is a killer. Is there an alternative to PE closer to home?
