Hi,

Well from what I hear there are much better ones around.
Did you check out the ones by ShallCo, Seiden or Blore Edwards?

They won't be cheap in small quantities but you'll also have the possibility of ging beyond 23 useable steps if needed.

Cheers,;)

Thanks for the names...any particular well working switch from those you mentioned?

The price dosnt matter (thought id never say that)....

All im looking for is something to copy/- refine.

How many steps would be usefull? (must be able to divide the number by 1.8 since the stepmotor likes that number)

Cheers

Progress:

Made the mold for the silver contacts yesterday, im gonna cold forge them in order to get reasonable hardness.

The number of positions have been determined to be 40. That should sound like something close to a potentiometer, right??

Should the slider be fine silver as well or would beryllium copper be better?

You might like this pic. It is custom switch made by Cello.

Thanks Peter.

Any chance to get an "upskirts" photo of the switch?

Ive opted for ceramic bearings/-axle. They are less sensitive to dust and so forth....and readily available (since i have no chance to machine AlN), and even for free, wich makes them sooo interesting ;)

Unfortunately that was the only available photo.

I know this will probably only make me want to cry (I'm so jealous), but how much did (do?) those things go for?
Magura
Machined to bearing specs. 1 axle and 2 bearings is around 100 euros.

If you ask me.....thats a scaaary number for that:(

I get ones that are rejected for one or another reason, like a chip in the face of the bearing or the like, wich makes no difference for this purpose, as long as the radial raceways are fine.

They are nice to use since the thermal elongation of AlN is close to zero and they dont need any maintainance or lubrication =very clean.
