Nubie needs a Sub Plate amp..? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Heya Everybody

This looks like the place to ask this question so here goes.

I want to build a powered subwoofer for my home system.

I'm havin a hard time finding a 250 watt + amp plate that takes a LFE line input...I've been to PartsExpress many times and the only amp plate with a LFE input is a 500watt monster that is a bit big for my needs..

My receiver is a (please be nice) Sony 695 and it only has a LFE line sub output.... and the amps @ Parts Express other than the two monsters only have dual RCA inputs....

Does anybody know of another place to find such amps as what I'm looking for...

Thankz in advance

Well someone else may want to chime in on this, but I believe you'll be ok if you use the regular plate amps. You can just plug your LFE output into one of the RCA IN jacks, or you could use a y cable to send the signal to both IN sets, since I think you'll looses some volume by using on one INPUT (not much though, I think maybe like 3db or something).

Plus you can just set the Low Pass filter to higher than normal if your really concerned, that way the LFE has all the controll.

But if I'm mistaken on this, please someone else voice opinion.

Thanks for for the answer on my sub woofer amp question.... Think I will purchase the 250Watt plate form PartsExpress...I had planned on pushing a 10-12" 4 ohm car woofer with it, like a cerwinvega or a mtx. Though I am concerned that these reall big wattage car speakers might not give a good frequency response due to the cones being constructed not so much for quality but for shear volume...any thoughts on that..?

thanks again..
