quote from a real story, marking M.L. as a loser...
which I always knew and Red Rose is a cheap Made in China product.

" This happened in the times before Mark Levinson, the man, bankrupted the company that later became Madrigal, which later fell under the aegis of Sidney Harman. Levinson, who could sell humidity to the Ecuadorians, went on to found Cello, which was essentially an upscale high-end boutique for the rich and famous, and has now, ironically become the sponsor of tube electronics at Red Rose, a much smaller venture than his previous ones. (He has also achieved a kind of fame in the gossip columns of the New York tabloids, thanks to his marriage to Sex and the City’s Kim Cattrall.)

It seems that Levinson is a very good marketer, and marketing usually is the key to the success in the market place.

We can all sing and praise how marvelous engineering of a product it. The reality is that as long as you have a half decent product, how well you do in the market really is determined by marketing. And levinson is probably one of the more successful ventures in audio that does / did a good job in that department.

As to those made-in-china cheap stuff? that would have included your Prada bags as well. Except that you can get the same genuine Prada, right out of the same factory, for $10.

Maybe the real losers are those who paid $1000 for the same $10 bags, :)

Loser or not, his influence on the industry cannot be denied. To me, Madrigal products represent the highest degree of engineering insight. As to Red Rose, I'm not commenting, but it is totally different venture;)

I visited their showroom, while in Manhattan, and was quite disappointed with what I saw there, (however the sound was pretty good).
