Either of these two transformers workable for a FrankenKlone - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi all,
I've been reading about all of your gainclones - very cool stuff.

As I am a cheap $@*stard. Wondering if any of the following will work?

The shiny copper one I stole from a defunct Philips receiver. It is huge! (33 - 0 - 33 secondaries - no load)

The painted one with all the leads I got somewhere, but I don't remember where. It is a bit smaller and has two secondaries. The first is a 34 VAC (no center tap)
The second is difficult to describe, but taking the first lead as a nominal "zero", it is: (0 - 6.5 - 13 - 25) (so maybe 13 - 6.5 - 0 -12 would be more accurate??)

Anyway, the four-lead secondary is obviously not useful, but what about using an even voltage divider on the 34 VAC leads and tying that to true ground? It would give me a 17 - 0 - 17

I am guessing the Philips is too high of voltage (unfortunate though because it is HEFTY).

Anyway, comments well appreciated - I will probably build one 'right' (with new components), but I need a stereo for the garage anyway, so why not build it 'garage-style'?? :D

Thanks.

I think 33V is right up there near the limit of 3886's. Definently need a heat sink for em, but I see 30-35V schematics all over the place.

Ok,
Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a try when my chips get here. First round will probably be a rat shack special (although I think I have a rectifier bridge lying around somewhere....)

Now to find some BIG heat sinks.

Rgds.
