Aleph 5: resistors, caps, internal wiring? - Click HERE for Original Thread
bbakota2000
Hi,
I want to make an Aleph 5. I'm completely new in DIY world so I will probably post a lot of questions here. For starters I have a question about the components that should be used in the amplifier. I saw Mr. Nelson used Dale resistors, and now I would like to know good and bad points of using better resistors (RIKEN). One Dale resistor is $0.40 and Riken is $2.40. Same thing for capacitors. What do I get if I use Black Gate electrolits (220uF)? Or maybe something different. Please tell me your opinion. Let's say I'm not limited with finances and I want the best out of Aleph 5 design. All suggestions are welcome!

If you do a search on the forum, you'll find a number of threads that will discuss the pros and cons of most of the different components that go into the Alephs and other amps.

or you could contact kristijan, check his site , he's in croatia too.

the good thing about the Aleph circuits is that you don't need to
build them with exotic parts for them to sound great!

(at least that's my opinion)

This goes for any of the passdiy constructions....actually a part of the beauty of them :)

I'm not an expert, but from what I understood (by reading here and there) the most gain comes from a good power supply and being able to increase the bias a bit (requires good cooling).

I myself did use some above average components as well
(caddock power resistores, vishay/dale resistors, big tritec coils, BG caps, BCC elcos, beefy toroid, Kimber wiring and plenty of WBT eye candy), however this makes it a lot more expensive.
Still don't know if it really matters much.

By that approach, you actually got something for your money (a bottle of Cabernet ).....as opposed to many others that just got cheated by the marketing machinery. ;)

Edit: the cabernet actually gives you about the same effect when looking at your wife!!!
