Strobe lights? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I just got back from Spencer's Lighting at the mall, they had 50% off sale, I saw Xenon tube strobe lights for $20. It had a great reflector.
I dont know much about strobe lights. I wanted to know if it is the same as the Xenon lamps, does it have a ballast inside, is it a circuit that makes it flash, and is it possible to make it stop flashing?

I made one of these in My Highschool Basic electricity class, there is No ballest for the strobe lights and you could potentially make them stay on a continious strobe, the strobe is controlled by the Potentiomometer( POT) the think you turn like a knob to contoal the on off cycle, How you would circumvent this I havent a clue when I mae one we wree given a blank curcuit board did our circuit traces and then drilled holls and installed various electronic components( from a diagram) Im not sure what the Lumen value of a Strobe light even is. Also they only have a useful lifespan and Im thinking its not that great of a lifespan. Good luck tho

he is right about the lifespan they do tend to burn out really quick, and the knob you turn, its not really that hard to open one up and have the knob turn further than its supposed to, but i tell you what, this would make an awfully bright image for a projector, and they keep pretty cool too so not many heating probs! Still wouldnt do it because those bulbs aint the cheapest in the world and you would most likely have to replace it everyday! I did it to one of my strobe lights once, i made it blink so fast it doesnt look like its blinking, but my bulb has since burned out and havent gotten a new one!

The faster a strobe blinks the less light output per blink mainly because the capacitor has less time to fully charge. This could be remedied. There is still the short life problem.

The major problem, as I see it, is keeping the blinking in sync with the video.

Who says it even has to blink? But I agree with the bulb life problem, maybe someone with a old strobe and the ability to modify it to stay on could clear this one up.
