Sceptre x7sv - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm just getting into this projection thing and I've been looking around at projectors from big companies including infocus. I've been dissatisfied with the perfomance I've seen for the money I'm willing to spend. I'm no stranger to diy projects and I've decided to tackle this one too. I've done some searching and I've come up with using a Sceptre x7sv-naga for my lcd( WXGA res, 500:1 contrast, 10-15 ms response.$685 cdn at tigerdirect.ca) and a samsung dvd-hd931 dvd player for my source(faroudja DCDi, upconverts to high def, full scaling, dvi out.) I was wondering if anyone has experience with this monitor. Also, It's a 17" widescreen and I can't seem to find a source for Fresnel lens bigger than 11*11. Anybody help? Thanks.:hot:

That's the biggest problem with desktop LCDs even 15" are a little bit too big for most cheap/easily available optics. But cruser is looking into getting some larger fresnels: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/show...&threadid=22964 looks very promising, very good price for the size, even though the cost is ~4x that of diylabs 12.2"

But with the high cost of that lcd, the optics etc, you're easily into a lot of money - the optics would be worth it if the lcd was a better deal but its only minorly appealing at that huge price. I got a normal 17"(Benq FP767) for about $200CAD less, and it has a higher res(vertical, horiz is the same), better response, a bit lower CR (but its my monitor not my projector).

Aside from the over priced panel however - there are some very cool features... PIP, tuner, etc so if you think it suits your needs it could work using the optics linked above.
