The Mirror effect... - Click HERE for Original Thread
Negative Design
Hey,

I want to use mirrors on my CRT projector,I want to make the CRT stand upright and use a mirror to reflect image to screen.I cant use the CRT in a flat position because its so big so thats why I want to use mirrors..I STRONGLY suggest doing LOTS of research before getting a CRT...lol most importantly you must have a LOT of room for one..I learned this the hard way ..

any ideas of how I can use a mirror or any way I have use this in a small room are appreciated :) any ideas at all.

negative has the right idea but wrong position. If you were to do it his way you wouldnt have a clear projection on your screen. the colors/image(s) wouldnt line up right. you would basically have the same image trippled in different colors on your screen.

what you want to do is place the mirror length wise to the pj as the pic i made shows. you will still have to adjust the convergence but it will be less than the way negative is showing.

you can try both and see what works best but im sure the image i posted will give you the best results.

remember that you will have to use a first surface mirror. not a regualr mirror as it will give you the ghosting effect.

The last crt projection tv I took apart worked the same way as in ap0the0sis's picture. It had around a four foot square mirror inside. You should be able to get away with a smaller mirror, but it might take some work.

I have the right idea just a bad picture...lol your pic BLEW mine away...lol may I ask what program did you use?

Thanks for the replies guys I will try it your suggestions tomorrow :)

I have some OHP mirrors..I think those would suffice...(I hope lol)

thats your fs mirror , thats about the cheapest for that size, get the 3mm thick mirror cos the 6mm will be too heavy for shipping, i agree with apo 100% the mirror needs to go lengnth ways also u may have some trouble with the projector being lower then the center of the screen, if the projector is lower u may get an uneven image focus or some bluring.

but wouldnt this invert the image and make it unwatchable or does this crt have the ability to correct this?
Negative Design
Most CRTs can be used as rear/front projectors :)
If not then i can invert it through software.

or if the picture is just upside-dow, you could simply turn your projector so the bottom faces your screen if it didnt before or visa-versa... shouldnt be a problem

Thanks guys for all the help...but I discovered I had enough room to project it the normal way..thanks! :)

negative,

do you have a running lcd projector, oem or diy? if so i would like to see screen shots of both the crt and your lcd working side by side. i havent had the privillage of seeing a crt in person. well once but the thing was so out of wack and so old that i dont count it. must have been a sony 10XX or similar.

I have some projection panels I had an LCD projector but i still have no cam..that is my next objective(any camera recomendations will be appreciated)

well apO most CRT projectors are old mine is about 15 yrs old..lol but it looks amazing.
Personally I dont think "Comparison" shots will be necessary...heres an IDEA of what you may see with CRTs http://www.videophile.info/Screen/5...ent/page_01.htm
If you see a CRT and still want to see an LCD then theres something wrong that CRT you saw..lol

I will still look for a good/cheap cam for pix.

Yeah, Well I have 2 lcd projectors. Epsons, But I haven't seen a good CRT to compare. I figured a side by side shot would show the quality difference more realistically than two seperate screen shots. I know screenshots suck because they always look better than the actual projected image but it can be used for reference.

By the way I have an Epson 5500C SVGA projector 650 lumens 300 Contrast that I might consider selling. However, It suffers from false starts. This means that out of 10 tries to start it it'll start 3-5 time. The PJ works, it just doesn't always start up. But once its on it stays on till you turn it off. So im sure its the trigger and not the power supply. Even when the PJ is "off" (lamp) it still displays an image because I removed the lamp and shined a light through the hole and it displayed a pic so if someone was to retro fit a MH lamp and ballast it will start up every time and project an image. If anyone is interested make an offer. I can take screenshots to prove it works, maybe even a short video of it running.
The PJ is clean and small, just a little larger than a piece of paper and about 3-4" high.

kool, I hope you get good $$ for it :)
as for me I had a Mitsubishi LVP 120..something liek that lol I never actually used this unit I bought it to retrofit but it wouldnt power on without lamp and cover so I sold it.

as for side to side shot I cant do that my room isnt big enoug for that..I cant just take two pics and use photshop to put them together..lol

you said you havent seent a CRT that beats ur LCDs,What CRT did you see? most CRTs prjs are at LEAST 10,000:1 ratio I find it hard to belive you havent seen a CRT thats good enoghhave you seen the pictures in the links i gave you? there are more pictures there if you go to "main"

oh yeah, my CRT has some bad starts too it powers off the 1st time I power on but the second time I do it it stays on.
