Between last night and today,If done alot of reading, but I still need a question answered.I dont know how far back most of you are setting up your projecters.
THis is my room. And I need a projecter.I have a panel (not bad for a starter its a Infocus powerveiw 950),but I need a projecter still. The target wall is 10'wide X8'tall and the only location in the room is 16.5' away from that wall.I dont know if a OHP will suffice or is even adjustable enough to be that far back,as I dont know **** about OHP's except to get one that is 4,000+lumens.
Any one that can jump in here and throw me in the right direction would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

ktulu909,
At 16.5 feet away the average overhead projector will through too big of an image for your wall. You will need to find a way to put the projector closer to the wall or else build or modify a OHP with a longer focal length lens.

yup, i'm in about the same situation. my pj is going to be about 15' from the wall/ screen, and i'm only looking for about an 8' diagonal.
based upon what i've read, and doing the math for the optics i have, my current setup will throw an approx 14' image on the wall.
i'm assuming i'm going to need to use a plano-convex in front of my triplet (317mm FL) to reduce the size. is this correct? |

What about any of the MK plans at diylabs, would any of those suffice.I really dont know enough about optics to calculate a focal range of a lens, but Id like to hear from anyone who might be set up this far away from the wall. This is all pretty new to me but I think im getting a grip on some of it.For a situation like this what type of lenses am I looking at?
Thanks,

| One more question.about how far do I need to have the OHP for a nice 8' X 6' screen?? |

| with the diylabs setup i had about 10.5 ft is a pretty big screen about 72 in diagonal so the father back the bigger it will be i did notice a big diffrence with the triplett lens from diy versus ohp lens could be futher back from screen with ohp lens than the triplett. i would say my first lens setup i was probably 12 to 13 ft back for the same size picture. but was nowhere near as pretty a picture as the triplett lens gives. |
