Big 80A MOSFET (TO-264) for Zen? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I've got about twenty of these. Think they'll work well in a Zen?

Ixys IXFK80N20. Capable of 360 Watts. I'll probably run it at standard Zen currents, though.

If nothing else, it will probably last longer before it self-destructs.

The first thing that comes to mind is the high gate capacitance of this device, and what it might mean to the design. Not necessarily a problem, but worth considering.;)

This sounds like something fun to try. Keep us posted.

Probably will act a lot like 4 IRF240's in parallel. It will work
fine, but the high frequency distortion will be quite a bit higher
unless you lower the impedance of the input/feedback networks
accordingly. Feeling like a 200 ohm input impedance?

:devilr:

Yowch! I can get about 320 Ohms output impedance from my 6c45pi driver tube and 4:1 interstage transformer ... that may be pushing the limit ... (sorry for entering tubes into this discussion, but I have a driver stage here on my desk)

Well, since I've got a stack of 80N20s, I might as well try 'em.

Since it seems that Pass is lurking, I'll toss this one onto the ring. If I use a driver stage with voltage gain, I can remove the voltage gain from the MOSFET. Therefore, I can use the 80N20 in follower configuation with unity voltage gain. Any advantages?
