I've been searching high and low for an LCD and trying to decide. Now I can't decide between the lilliput 7" or a impact WSX projection panel. The Impact is cheaper and has 1024x768 and 16.7 million colors. It only has VGA and RGB inputs. The lilliput has VGA and RCA inputs and it allows for a smaller and more efficient projector, but the resolution is only 640x480 (ya I know its 800x480)

So the problem boils down to: Do I want a compact projector with lower res or should I go truly DIY and make a projector the size of my car! If I got the WSX I'd need a RCA>VGA converter, some sort of speakers, a TV tuner, etc...

I couldn't find much for LCD monitors that were less than 12" on ebay.

Thanks for any help

OK! I am going to make an MKII. Here's my parts list:

1. Impact WSX projection panel
2. 12.2" Fresnel from diylabs
3. 250 Watt MH Kit (Ballast and Bulb) from diylabs
4. Soup Ladle DIY Reflector from diylabs
5. glass pane from diylabs
6. projection lense from diylabs
7. complimentary condenser lense from diylabs

I would greatly appreciate any advice and critiques of my list. I will probably split the fresnel from diylabs. I'm not sure about items 5 & 6. I've heard others (ace3000) taking about other better lenses. The glass pane, I just wonder if I could find a filter pane to protect my panel.

Thanks

resolution is not the only factor. Contrast ratio is also important. between XGA 100:1 and SVGA 300:1, I would pick SVGA.

By the way, are you sure Impact WSX is real XGA? I remember it is compressed (800x600 native). Plus it only have 100:1 contrast ratio. With 12.2" fresnel, you should go moniotor route. someone mentioned mag 14" LCD monitor is $180 after rebate. It's XGA, 300:1, 14", and easy to dismentle. sounds like a great monitor to get. There are also a few 15" LCD monitors worth looking at.

Wouldn't the LCD need to be smaller then the fresnel lense?

I would like to use a LCD tv if possible, since it has a tv tuner. I imagine, just like monitors, some are easy to dismantle and some aren't.

Thanks

15¡± LCD is 12"x9". a 12.2"x12.2" fresnel will fit

May I know where can you get this impact WSX projection panel and for how much?

I been searching hard for an LCD monitor. Is there any clear winner yet? I'm concerned about a post I read talking about color # using interpolation, any one brand prefered?

EasyPrey : I found it on ebay and I emailed the guy direct and he agreed to ~ $200 including shipping.

I'm tryin to get an lcd monitor for under $200. If you can help me I'll email you a cookie.

Man, I spent hour here and weeks trying to get my ohp panel. If I'd been offered to turn time back - I'd just buy decent 15" monitor or most probably 7" tv-monitor and forget about $20-30 I have overpaid. Your life is much more expansive :)
Guy from ebay who sold me panel was unable to send me cable for panel for 3 weeks and at last said - send it back to me I'll refund :smash: And he was saying that he tested panel, :devilr:!

Money you're trying to save spending days shoosing the 'best' toy for least $$$ doesn't worth efforts... Well mine efforts at least...
