setup and hold time - Click HERE for Original Thread

What is the significance of a negative setup and hold time for a 7474 D-type flip-flop? I understand the meaning, but what importance does it hold (pun intended)?

A negative setup time means that the input doesn't have to be stable until after the triggering edge of the clock. Likewise, a negative hold time means the input can change before the clock edge and still be considered valid. It gives you some extra timing leeway.

I'd be surprised if both were negative for the same input and clock edge though!
