I opened my CD17 to find the laser assembly skewed with respect to the mechanism. It is at an angle and additionally the CD also seems to be slightly tilted - not absolutely horizintal.
The machine works fine .
Is there any known reason for doing this ? The mechanism seems to be designed that way . I looked at the inner moulding which has slots that are skewed. The basic laser assembly is a VAM 12.01.

Hello Ashok
First thing that comes to my mind if it is skewed on purpose is that it is to reduce the sensitivity to vibration/shocks. Most real life mechanical shocks have a direction "preference".
Giving it a second thought there are a lot of reasons why this is done. F.I. easy design of mechanism or tray-loading, easier production, cost reasons. etc :scratch:

Did you look at it with drawer open AND closed?
In difference from "normal", it drops sideways for eject, instead of dropping at front-edge.
It is / should be paralell (horisontal when playing).

I think you're right. If a mechanism is skewed in such a way your eyes can see it, it won't play any disks for sure ... |
