Im having trouble identifying the clock speed in my Sony CDP 620/650ES players. The crystal is stamped with a set of numbers:
67.7376
336-11
KSS5C
Since its a 1985 or so player it seems unlikely its a 67mhz clock. Can anyone make sense of these numbers? |

It may actually be those MHz. AFAIK it's just a crystal, not an XO, and those were used on radiofrequency applications long before '85.
If you're going to tweak it, I'd look for its service manual. it's an invaluable tool for mods and tweaks. In this case sourcing a 67MHz XO maybe problematic; if you know which DAC it's using you may work around that.
I got the service manuals for my Sony MDS-JA20ES and CX54 from www.user-service-manuals.com. Ask if it is available...
good luck! |

Hi Pukka and Fritz,
I fear Pukka is right about the crystal. It could very well be a 67.7376MHz crystal. I Googled for 67.7376
and guess what did I find: It is used in a Sony CDP-302ES and a Kenwood L-1000D. The latter was on a site of Octave Electronics.
So I am very sorry for you as this type of crystal won't work in the KWAK-CLOCK.
Good luck,
:) |

Doesn't sound promising......that has to be an overtone type. Needs circuit tweaks t0 make any circuits that you might find here.
OTOH.......since it probably uses 16.9344 MHz (or 384 x 44.1 kHz) anyway...............

Hi Jocko,
Yes that occurred to me too. 16.9344 MHz is probably divided down from 67.7376 MHz by exactly 4.
But it will require more surgery in the player and insight. We will need a servicemanual. Thanks for the help.

| Well maybe its time to build a CD pro or just pick up something used on Ebay. I didnt want to give up on the player since it is the only audio product Ive purchased new. What would be a good used player to look for? |
