Hi, well I guess it would be quite easy for me to organise a single shipment to the UK for the boards and send them out from here. I have included a list of the UK people from the wiki, and if you are happy with me trying to do this, let me know by posting some feedback on here. Also, if I have missed anyone out, or if some people would rather not do this, still feel free to let me know.

Hi....... just to let you know that I have emailed my conformation + details directly to you...........
I have only ordered 2 boards........... I assume this will suffice for a single stereo amp.
I would also appreciate it if we could possibly source components as a group??? resistors, transistors + heatsinks we may be able to get better prices etc.....what are your thoughts?

Yeah, I would be happy to try and get a group buy together for some of the other stuff.
I have been thinking for a while of ordering some large heatsinks from conrad in australia, as they are very nice parts and quite good prices, even when you factor in the shipping, so if some other people were interested, I might be able to organise getting everything in a single shipment to save on postal costs for those.
I'm not quite as sure about the transformers, as these apear to be quite a personal thing, depending on what output power you want. However, I can get a hold of twin 15, 18 or 25 volt, 300VA transformers for about £25 from work, as well as 30V, 625VA ones if you wanted to build something a little meatier. |

..for being the UK rep Andrew!!!
BTW the 1.1 is just asking if the boards are Version 1.1 or not.
In any case, I am going for the 4 pcbs to put away for a rainy day - which is about 30% of the year at the moment!! ;)

For taking this on.
Would be interested in some kind of group buy, though not sure as yet whether to build Grey's original or a higher powered version. It depends on if I bi/triamp the new speakers (still to be built!).
Quite exciting to be getting back into the DIY after an 18 year layoff. My original 75W maplin mosfets still going strong though I suspect that the PSU caps have deteriorated after this length of time. Still sounds better than my kenwood surround sound amp though.
Have made contact by email.

Right, good to see you guys replying here, that only leaves two more to get the lot for the uk.
I will keep everyone informed of things that are going on via this thread, as it is easier than sending out email to all of you. But, for now I don't have a lot more to say, so we'll just have to wait for something more interesting to happen.

Hi, now that the instructions for getting the boards have been posted, I want to start arranging the payment and stuff.
So far, it looks like I will be getting all of the UK boards appart from brownlow's, so the total postage of the boards to me in cambridge should only cost about $9, and when you add on the paypal charges, this comes o just over $102 for all of our boards (about $5.70 or £3.25 each).
Sp, if people would like to contact me about how they would like to pay me (Paypal prefered, but I can happily take cheques or bank orders, even cash if you want to risk posting it) I can send you a final amount (postage should be about two pounds for eveyone, and probably less but I will check this out before replying individualy to you all) to pay as well as the finer deatails of how to do so.
I am hoping to get the payment in for these by the tenth of january at the latest, so if you could all get back to me before then that would be great.

Hi, I have had a look through the 100 series heatsink selection on there, and depending on teh prices there would probably be a few types that I would be interested in (all of them in 150mm lengths with black anodizing), I have listed tehm below, allong with their width and height dimensions, as well as their rating at 150mm in length.
159AB 150 X 160 X 40 - 0.45deg/w
165AB 150 X 300 X 40 - 0.36deg/w
166AB 150 X 125 X 50 - 0.50deg/w
177AB 150 X 300 X 83.5 - 0.23deg/w
195AB 150 X 300 X 84 - 0.22deg/w
196AB 150 X 400 X 84 - 0.2deg/w
Obviousley, prices would vary depending on the numebr of parts ordered, so if people were to say coppy the list and then add ow many of each they would be interested in (if any) for a particular type, then this would allow us to get a rough idea ont eh cost for each type if we were to go ahead and order only one of the pofiles in a large number. I personlay, would be quite ahppy to use any of tehm, but the 159, 177 or 195 would probably be best ofr me.

Hi, thanks for looking @ the heatsinks................I am interested in the following:-
177AB 150 X 300 X 83.5 - 0.23deg/w x4 this may be ok if deeper @ say 250mm .... this may be very ecoonmic heatsink.
195AB 150 X 300 X 84 - 0.22deg/w x4
196AB 150 X 400 X 84 - 0.2deg/w x4 would prefer this
Ideally.......I would prefer a deeper section 150 is a little shallow....I would prefer say 200-250mm............what wattage are you aimimng for............

Hi, I have hopefully replied to few more of your mails by now and I have now got an updated list of orders which I will be placing in about a weeks time (you can see that below so feel free to tell me if there are any mistakes).
D3 as far as the heatsinks go, I was thinking about building two seperate chasis, with an active crossover, and two amp modules in each ofr bi amping, so I reaconed on getting about two lots of around 50W into each speaker, however, if I went for sections much over 150mm high, that stack for the amps might be getting a little tall for the missus to cope with (hence the interst int he 150's which I reackon would just be about acceptable).
As far as my picture goes, if you go into the main forum section you should be able to find a button somewhere that says user cp or something similar. o#Once you go into this there should be some sections on user settings and preferences, if you look for something that says avtar (if that is how you actualy spall it) you should be able to attach you very own little picture for yourself (mine came from about five minutes work in photoshop one day when I was bored).

Hi Richard, I dd get your cheque when I got back yesterday and I have my computer up and runnig agin now, so hopefuly my responses will be a bit quiker to most requests now. I have included a list of all the orders that I will be putting through on Saturday, so it would be nice if those who havent payed yet could get in touch (Al, I still havent heard from you, so if you want to give me a ring to sort things out, give me a call on 07748 533918 and I should be able to sort something out with you then).
But, even if the payment for all of the boards doesn't reach me by Saturday, I'll still get all of them for the people who have asked, and just keep the others here with me untill people get ound to sending me the money, so it still saves a bit on the postage.
If anyone else has anyting they do want to ask about the order though, just post here or send me a mail and I should get back to you pretty quickly:

Hi, I think it would be really good to pool resources with regard to purchasing critical components.........
Mosfets.............we obviously need quite a few! so we may be able to order part of a batch which would give excellent matching
......perhaps one of the more technically minded would be willing to match them into sets????
Capacitors ........really good audio grade capacitors are expensive..especially the larger values.
Coils
Transformers....I believe Andrew can source 600va trorroids...
Heatsinks
Is there a difinitive 'stuffing' parts list for the amp???
I would appreciate it if all uk Aleph X builders would voice an opinion........I think this is a great opertunity.
What does everybody think???
:smash::cool: |
|
|
| bigparsnip |
Right, with regards to some of the parts, The 600VA toroids That I can get hold of wouldn't be too flexible in terms of secondary voltages I'm affraid as they would be comming from work (only dual 30 or 40, unless you drop down to 300VA where I can get 15, 18 and 25 as well). However, as long as I don't quit my job any time soon, I should be able to get hold of these any time people want for around £30 and £23 respectively (however, the postage may be quite a lot on these, so they might not work out quite a cheep as you would fist think).
As for mosfets, Does anyone know any where they may be able to source these from at a reasonable price, or failing that there are always the free samples from onsemi, which I think do an IRF240 type part.
As for heatsinks, I think looking about, for me, I would have to get some from Conrad Heatsinks in Australia, as having contacted Julian there, it looks quite possible to order only four of the 0.21deg/w MF35 151.1 heatsinks and they would only cost around £25 each.
For capacitors, unless anyone comes up with any other (cheeper) ideas, I personaly, would probably be building capacitor banks up from 63V, 6800uF Samwha audio grade caps that you can get for amplin, as these are only £4 if you order over 25 of them.
And finaly, yes there is the stufifng list for the parts, along with the circuit scheematic, whihc I have attached below, as I'm not too sure I want to go off looking for it right now. |
|
|
| bigparsnip |
After a bit more searching, I have found what might be some better caps (depending on the rail voltage you want to run at) for this project. They are Sparuge 36D types, rated at 30V and 36000uF (107mm tall and 77mm diameter) and I have found them ofr the seemingly silly price of about £7.00 each.
So, if people are interested in these, they might be a good place to start (they should still allow a good 35w of output from each channel if you have a stiff enough supply). |
|
|
| bigparsnip |
After a bit more diging about, I have found that the IRFP044 MOSFETS are rather pricy in the UK (RS want about £3 a go for them), however, I have seen them for as littel as $1.20 from some US suppliers. The only problem is that they won't ship outside the US or canada, and have a minimum order of $100. So, it looks like unless we can coordinate a group buy through a helpful member on the other side of the atlantic these may prove a littel on the expensive side.
Also, regarding the coments I have made above, and the transformer and capacitor specs:
Using the 30V capacitors (with the maximum rail voltage of 30V) you would be able to get closer to 100W of output, as I was forgetting the x acts as a bridge type amp when it comes to output power.
And as far as the Transformers go, only the 300VA 15V one would come close to offering much of a sensible option for building an amp. As, with the higher voltage ones, you would be strugling to get teh correct amount of curent needed from them for 8ohm opperation, nevermind if you were to set teh bias for a 4 or 2 ohm speaker. Doh!
So, does anyone have any nice american (or canadian) relatives or friends who might be able to sort out getting the MOSFETS for us? Or does anyone else know of any other suitable source?
Andrew. |
|

| Reichelt in Germany for IRFP044 at EUR 1.20 each, we could probably order direct......what do you think.....;) |
|
|
| bigparsnip |
Sounds good, I guess I missed that one.
also, I have found something on ebay that may be of interest for people. Basicaly it is a guy who has a lot of boxes with fairly large transformers in which appear to have +/-15V secondaries rated at 13A each (as well as a single 18V, 13A section), so if you were looking to put togethere a cheep 80W version of hte x, these could be quite useful. YOu should be able to find them on teh link below for the next day or two for only £12 each!
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....egory=4661&rd=1 |
|
|
| D3 |
Andrew please can you post your ideal transformer requiremnts
I will do a search...........from what I gather we should be looking for approx 600-750va @18v is this correct? |
|
|
| bigparsnip |
For the amps I intend on building, I am looking at the folowing specs:
Transformer - 15-0-15 to give approx +/- 20V rails (18-0-18 would also be ok I guess, although things may get a littel more toasty)
Bias Current - Approx 5A (Limited by Heatsinking)
Dissipation - Approx 200W (to give around a 40deg temp rise from a 0.21deg/w heatsink)
No of out put devices per chanel - 8 (to give about 25W per device)
Output Power would be about 80w into eight ohms for the 15-0-15 transformer (that would go up to about 100W for the 18V transformer) which is more than enough for my curent speakers.
edit:
I forgot to mention the rating of the transformers, I guess for the minimum needed for either of the above would be about 300-400VA, but as long as the prices are good I have no problems going higer than this.
Also, I did order some of the ones I have mentiond above from ebay as these are rated at about 400VA for the 15 volt taps, whihc should mean these are good for up to 10A bias each whihc I think is more than enough to start with for one channel. However, if you do find anything better for a good price I'm sure I could persuade myself to have a try of a couple. |

I have been in contact with a heatsink supplier.......this is the reply I have recieved..............
Further discussion today on your application I can make the following suggestion. We have PN S142 which is 400 wide 40 high, when cut to 250mm it has a thermal performance of 0.175 C/W in natural convection. Therefore when dissipating 250W it will have max temperature rise of 43.75C, to achieve a max temperature of 65C the ambient can be no higher than 22.25C. Will this be good enough? If so please advise the potential quantity and I will arrange a quotation. If not I can look at the next size up which is considerably bigger and therefore more expensive.
Please let me know how you want to proceed.

| Well, I got my transformers today (all four of them) and they look quite nice once I have them stripped out of the boxes they came in (which in themselfs would make nice project boxes if I had enough room to store them untill I needed something like that). I measured them up, and at no load they have one large 15-0-15-18 output which is rated for about 13A on each tapping (so about 390VA for the two 15V taps I will be using) as well as a much smaller 15-0-15 output (by the looks of the cable on this, I wouldn't want to risk more than an amp from them). Also, because of the extra 18V tap, the transformers are aproximately the same size (a littel bigger, but not much) than some 500VA ones that I ahe seen, so they should prove very nice for running a channel each, especialy considering they only cost me about £15 each including the postage. |

Hi I have got a reply from a Dutch firm who can supply matched Mosfets........+ other parts.......thought the uk crowd may find it useful..............
info@specmail.nl
Hello,
I can deliver all Pass labs parts you need, it take some time for some parts, I have matched Mosfets IRFP240 for 2,70 Euro each.
33000uF/ 40V capacitors is usual for all the Aleph types who operate on supply voltages till + and - 35V specially now I use for an 100Watt X a powersupply with 33000uF and an inductor 4mH and a 100000uF/40V after the inductor, the ripple voltage will be less than 1mV.
50V capacitors are more expensive and the 40V types and hard to find, 63V is the next step....
I will send the prices asap

Hello there,
Conrads prices do seem quite reasonable I guess, the only concern I have with them is at only 150mm high are they really high enough.
I wouldnt know as I have never built an amp before and all the ones I have seen pictures of on this forum seem to be higher.
Also how many would be required? Are 2 enough for a stereo amp or would it have to be 4 for a pair of mono blocks?
Just out of intrest are there any of the PCBs left?
I am definatly not in a hurry to build anything at the moment, too much uni work for that :bawling: but if I can get some of the more expensive parts cheaper by doing group buys with you guys then Im all for it. Hence my intrest in the heatsink order.
speak to you all later
Mark. |
|
|
| bigparsnip |
| quote: | | Also how many would be required? |
That all depends on how big you want to build, at teh moomnet, I'm looking at doing a version with roughly 20V supply rails and a 5a bias, which will at worst dissipate 200W in the heatsinks (gives me maximum output powers of 80, 50 and 25 respectively into 8, 4 and 2 ohm loads). So one of the largest ones, the MF35 - 151.1 at 0.21deg/w should 'just' do for one channel, so you could easily put two in a box.
However, if you want to go any larger than this I would sugest using two per channel and building yourself two mono blocks. as this would alow for about 400w dissipation from each chassis, so with voltage rails of 25V, and an 8A you would be able to get 130, 128 and 64 watts output power into 8, 4 and 2 ohm loads respectively, which is quite a lot for a class a amp.
As far as any PCB's being left over, I believe that Chris orderd quite a few extra, and once he has sorted out all of the initial orders, and is back in canada he will be selling off all of the spares to people who missed out the first time. So if you wait a week or two, you should be able to pick some up direct form him to get yourself going.
In the meantime though, feel free to try and join in on any more of the UK group buys we try and organise.
Andrew. |

If you are a little short on cash, I sujest you check out the place I got my transformers from (15 - 0 - 15 [with an extra 18V tap, which you can just ignore] and good for about 400VA ont hese lines with about 500-600 in total) as they are a bit of a bargin at only £12 each pluss the shipping. If you do want to, have a look at the e-bay page below, I think he should have some left (well, he had about 30 or so when the auction finished anyway).

| I think I mentioned this above, but if you realy want some of the PCB's, there were quite a few extras ordered with this buy, so you should be able to order some of the spare ones directly from HiFiZen in a few weeks time once all of the orders from the group buy are sorted out. |

hi.
just wanted to add we have lots of heatsinks , fets (irfp 240 and 9240) and some transformers suitable for aleph-x.
let me hear if you are interested , we think a group buy is better here.

Toroidal Transformer Technical Information
Toroidal Transformer Diagram
Toroidal transformers offer many advantages over a conventional laminated transformer. The circular tape wound core, with no air gaps, and with the primary and secondary windings uniformly distributed around the core, "locks in" the magnetic field and makes the toroidal transformer very quiet and efficient. As a result of this efficiency, Toroidal transformers are almost half the size and weight of EI or laminated transformers.
Toroidal transformers have an almost ideal physical construction and offer excellent technical performance. The height and diameter of the Toroidal transformer can be varied to meet customers special requirements.
All our Toroidal Transformers are manufactured in the UK at our own factory.
Our toroidal transformer are half the size of a conventional transformer
Quiet, ideal for Audio applications
Efficient typically 95%
Small and Light
Flexible
Flash tested to 4.5KV
Choice of resin centres to your requirements
So why post the price for 1 or 2+ or 10+ when you will not sell in those quantities???
Perhaps another few people calling them may may them change their minds!!!

| I'm afraid as I have mentioned above that I have already managed to get my transformers for this project (proabably too many as well at four of them) so I won't be able to chip in on this one. However I would still like to get in on a group purchase of MOSFETS, power resistors and probably heatsinks (from conrad), if those are going ahead. Especialy as I am considering getting heatsinks from there on any case (and I guess my credit card could stand up to a reasonable group buy from australia if other people wanted some too). |
|
|
| D3 |
Hi ...... well I have decided....I am definately going for the conrad heatsinks.......I am going for the double flanged....this will assist construction and ensure that the heatsink does not warp (this can be a big problem) I intend to use 16 output devises per channel (8 on each sink).
Maybe the 150mm high varient may suite bigparsnip?
I intend to build two mono blocks so I will order 4.
However I am going to hold on until the circuit boards arrive! I believe 'bigparsnip' is correct these sinks are good quality.
I would like to share the shipping 'bigparsnip' are you a runner on this......does anybody else want to joint in.
Regarding matched mosfets......I recon the best way would be to get a bulk order going..........then we would be able to match sets
.....we could probably get mosfets for under £2 each......

Hi, yes I would be interested in sharing the shipping costs as I would like to try and order a few sinks for myself, namely the:
MF35-50 x 2
MF35-75 x 4
MF35-151 x 2
the only minor worry I have with this is what costoms will be like witht the parcle, and how much extra in import duty and VAT we may have to pay. But, if you want to wait till the boards arive that would be fine as that should hopefuly be happening in the next week or so. |
|
|
| D3 |
| I have imported other smaller goods ..... and have had nothing to pay except p&p.........but they were much smaller..........:apathic: |

Thought this extract would be of interest.........
Import Duty
Duty is calculated on the declared invoice value of the goods (even if a gift) entering the EC. Universities may apply for relief from import duty for scientific instruments imported for educational purposes or non-commercial scientific research. Donated medical equipment, if imported for medical purposes, may also be exempt from import duty. Applications for duty relief must be made to the Department of Trade and Industry through the Purchasing Office. It is unlikely for Duty relief to be granted if the DTI decide that like items can be obtained from within the EC, regardless of cost.
VAT
All goods, whether from EC or non EC countries, entering the UK are liable for VAT (currently 17½%) which is added to the total of the declared invoice value and any applicable import duty. This applies regardless of whether the University is purchasing the goods, hiring them or receiving them as a sample or a gift.
Medical, scientific, computer, video, sterilising, laboratory or refrigeration equipment for use in medical research, training, diagnosis or treatment are exempt from VAT. (see section 7000 - Relief from Value Added Tax). When this applies, the shipping agent will require a copy of the order with the proper VAT exempt certification prior to arrival of the goods. Failure to comply will result in the payment of VAT on importation following which it is very difficult to obtain a refund.
Imports by Post
The Post Office will not release imported parcels until duty and VAT have been paid in full, even if duty relief has been granted or if VAT exemption applies. Departments may obtain cash against their account from the Cash Office in the Finance Office to cover this. If duty relief has been granted or has been applied for, and/or VAT exemption applies, you should retain the part of the packaging which carries the Customs declaration and stamp in order to reclaim duty or VAT. Purchasing can assist in this matter. |

i like the pricing for those from BG micro, and I would quite happily take 20 (or more) for myself if anyone else wanted to get some too.
edit:
actualy, it would make more sense to buy more of these now as they are rated at a high enough voltage to use in other projects. So I guess I could easily take 40 just for me, which would mean that the cost would only be £1.80 each (pluss whatever the postage would come to for shipping them, but that is still a great price for such big caps).
Let me know if anyone els is interested in them and I can send a mail to BG micro asking how much the shipping will be. |

|
|
| bigparsnip |
NOt quite arc welding, but as I have four boards, that need four seperate supplies That would be a minimum of eight. However, I intend to run CRC filters so that jumps up to 16 caps. I also have another amp project running (although I think these may just be slightly under the necessary voltage) so that will be another four to eight for that. Then, just to make sure I do haev enough add some more on to get your final figure.
Besides at that price who could resist. |

A CRC filter is a trick that you can use to help smooth your supply rails out a bit more than the capacitors could manage on their own. What you have to do is attach the first capacitor straight after your diode bridge. Then instead of wiring the next cap straight onto the positive trminal of the first cap, you wire in a resistor between the two.
Using this method does dissipate some extra heat in your resistors, and will mean you lose a little voltage due to the drop accross the resistor, but it does mean a more uniform set of supply rails which can only be good.
You can acheive a similar result using large inductors, which are more efficient and waste less power, but they would cost a lot more to buy, so for now I'll just stick with the power loss in the resistors. |

I have just called Airlink and they ARE happy to sell in quantities as little as 1!
I suggested that a group buy from this forum would be a possibility - they are prepared to give us the discounts for the combined quantity but still ship individually (obviously shipping charges would apply to each of us).
Could those that want in on this arrangement agree on a common specification?
My suggestion would be 750 or 1000va with 2 x 18v secondaries with a steel band (screening?, which they add for audio use, if it's not that much extra cost). My preference is for the 1000va as there is only a small premium to pay for a lot more iron.
Anybody needing to lose a few volts can use a CRC filter, anybody wanting to keep the volts can use a CLC filter!
I need 10 transformers anyway, so we could potentially hit a very good price break with only a few interested members.
Any takers? |

Hi All,
I also spoke with Airlink. Not only will they do as Jason said, but they are happy to supply potted trannies (is that resin-filled??), flexible leads of any length you like, banded, etc. I wonder if we can get a better than average spec agreed for the group purchase? What about specifying a better spec of winding wire etc? I am hoping to use some of my group order in my GC project, so is the 1000VA the rating we need, or can it be (say) 500VA? Sorry, but I am going to "clone" my AXs as I am a total amp noob!!
Suffice to say that the sinks look good, and the thought of matched mosfets at a good price (how do you match them??).
Cheers for now!
Jon :D |

| jonclancy |
Are we also looking for dual primaries on the trannies (just to be able to mod back for 110v use)?
Cheers

Might be interested in traffos, depending on price and specs, probably 2 to start, maybe more depending on price.
BP, the cheque is in the post, sorry for the delays, I was waiting for people to pay invoices... Ahh, the joys of being a freelancer! |
|
|
| Jason Hubbard |
I would not be interested in dropping the VA rating to 500va - the larger the transformer the better your project will sound regardless of the actual current draw you require from it, for me the 1000va had the best price/performance ratio.
As for up-spec'ing the transformer with higher quality wire, etc - not sure that there will be any benefit in this - the wire they wind with will be capable of passing 28 amps continuously - how much thicker does anybody think it needs to be?
And will it be justified if the price gets hiked up because of it?
For me the only variable at the moment is the steel band - i'll get a price with/without and post when i get an answer. |
|
|
| D3 |
| I agree........what sort of price are you being quoted???;) |
|
|
| Jason Hubbard |
I have faxed Airlink a quotation request earlier today asking for prices based on a quantity of either 25 or 50 for both 750va or 1000va transformers.
I have asked for prices for either 2 x 115v Primary windings or 1 x 230v primary winding (a single primary is OK for me but it was sort of requested earlier in the thread) and dual 18v secondary windings (what is the concensus of opinion on voltage - these will be custom wound, so we could go for an "odd" inbetween voltage like 16v if it fitted everyones needs better).
I also asked how much extra the steel bands would add to each transformer.
To keep things simple (and keep the costs down) i asked for the transformers to be supplied with the standard 2 x rubber washers and dished steel washer fixing kit (rather than resin centred/potted, etc) and advised that flexible leads were not a requirement (i.e. they will just be thick copper insulated flying leads of 200 to 300mm with tinned ends).
I'll post their reply when it comes through. |
|
|
| D3 |
18v for me..........I agree about potting.....but really would like the sheilding.....looking forward to the quote!
Sorry for my ignorance why do people want 2X115v primarys? What is the advantage????? |
|
|
| Jason Hubbard |
I believe Jon Clancy stated earlier in the thread that he was interested in the possibility of dual primaries.
These would make the transformers suitable for use in non-european countries, but i'm not sure that our expected low cost would work in any other countries favour after adding in the higher export shipping costs of these heavy items. |

Subject: SV: Matching mosfets
I might be interested in matching for you. After all it would be a better use of the money and time I spend on building the tester. I have already bought MOSFETS already though...... at rather good prices I must say:)
How manny matched sets would you like, and how many transistors in each sett??? The transistors I have is IRFP044N, and I have 100 of the same batch :-). There should be possible to
get some good matched sets from that batch, but it all depends on how many you want. If you want many, or you know of more people that want me to match transistors I could ask them if it would be possible to get more from the same batch.
What I want for myself fromt these 100 is 4 channels with 4 transistors, 2 with 16 and then I have 4 more channels. I'm not sure how many I need for them, but with 8 or 12..... and most of the 100 I have is gone.... withch also were the reason for buying 100.....
But it is possible to get more, the thing is that it would be best to get the same batch. And if there are more people interrested in getting matched setts it would be best to buy all at the same time to get the same batch.
Ok, come back to me what your plans are so I know what the need is.
Anders

Ok - The fax has arrived and details are as follows;
750va , single 230v primary & dual 18v secondaries - £19.69
1000va , single 230v primary & dual 18v secondaries - £22.52
Prices above are for 25 units. Price reduces by about 60p if we can get to a quantity break of 50.
The dual 115v primaries add about £1 to the price.
Steel bands add about £1.50 to the price.
Delivery leadtime is about 4 weeks.
Who's interested and who's going to volunteer to organise it? |

What voltage is everyone keenest on (these are custom wound so we can devaite a few volts and the price will not change).
For the difference in price my thoughts are to go with the 1000va. |

I have recieved a reply from BG .....they will do 68,000 capacitors for 4 bucks each.............shipping would be 39 bucks for 8.......
this works out at approx £4 each + vat..........not bad !!!!:devilr: :smash: |
|
|
| bigparsnip |
I also just recieved a mail from BG micro, with an aim to a slightly bigger order. For 72 caps, it would come to about $400 dollars each, which is slightly over £3.00 per cap (assuming we miss import duty and the like). I would still very much like to try and order some of these (and although there would be a large upfront cost for me, I'm sure I could just about manage it if people wanted to get in on this one. (As I obviousley won't need all of those 72) It would be good if people let me know if they are interested, and I may also pop this up in the trading post section too see if any one else is intrested (or just put the extras in there once I'm finished).
Edit: That would be about $400 in total, not each, and even if they do add import duty and VAT to that price they should still come in at most around £4.00 (including the VAT, duty and postage within the UK) each as a final price. |
