1952 rec. of Bach sonatas and partitas w. Heifetz, sound problems - Click HERE for Original Thread
Christer
I recently bought the complete Bach sonatas and partitas with
Heifetz on the italian Aura label. There is not much info about
the recording, but only says it is a 1952 studio recording. While
the sound is good in general, there are certain problems. On
track 1 there is a very loud hum and on some other tracks
there is some very clear rumble-like sound. While I have no
real problem to stand these defects due the other qualities
of the recording, I do wonder, though, whether these are
really problems with the original recording or rather a result
of a bad transfer on the Aura issue? So, does anybody have
these recordings on some other label and if so, do the same
problems exist there? If the problems are just due to a bad
transfer I would like to try getting a better version.

I knew this was a long shot and I probably wouldn't get any
answers, but I'll bump the thread just once before I let it
go.

Hi Christer,
Yes,there is a transfer problem you're talking about.
I have the same version (Aura CD's and the original LP's),so I remember having the same unpleasant surprise.
The rather small Italian companies don't give a s**t about the sound quality of their outputs...:smash:
If you're willing to go for another version for various reasons (I did get another version a very long time ago,and not because the sound issues, but because I simply don't like Heifetz !!!),please consider the earlier version (around 1964) of Bach's Sonatas and Partitas played by Henryk Szeryng.
HTH!
