amp wiring, ground problem (wierd) - Click HERE for Original Thread
Shift_vigoroso
I've had a problem come up recently that I was hoping someone would be able to help me with.

I was driving in my car the other day, and the amp to my mains shut off. I pulled over to look at it and duh, the power wire (+) had pulled out of the connector to the amp. So I put it back on(it's not in a connector, I just have it clamped with the screw clamp). when the amp came to life I started hearing some loud engine interference (like you would hear with a bad ground).

I've re-cleaned the metal surfaces and re-tightened them down on the ground and made sure that the power wire is making good contact, but with no results. Also, this noise is ONLY present when the engine is on, so I'm not thinking that my amp went out(out of optimism).

Ideas? Suggestions? I've heard of RF filters(line filter?, dunno), but they look a little too puny to be able to handle the amperage going to the amp...

Thanks in advance

I know it might be stupid...but have you determined where the noise actually starts?? Izzit the Amp or the headunit??

Yeah get a portable cd player and a 3.5 - rcas converter, turn volume and gain down, and try that, eliminates the rca ground loop through headunit, see if that fixes it, if so, get one of those rca isolators.

Well, that would be a good idea(and one that I had not thought of), but why would this problem suddenly come up when the system wasn't making noise before?

Maxima dashes are a real pain to take apart, so I'm hoping I won't have to do that... :whazzat:
