well guys after building one of alans mk2 designs i picked up some overheads from a school auction. upon having to take apart my projector to clean lcd and dicker with optics i decied to try one of the overheads i had got. i found the apolla ai 1000 had roughly the same distance between the light and the fresnell as the diylabs projector i had built and the light seem to be brighter but was yellow halogen so i decied to take everything out of my projector and put in the overhead case. so i took out the guts of the overhead and replace the light with the 250 w hqi this works great and old overhead even has reflector built in :D so i replace the fresnell with diylabs one and the overhead lens with the diy triplett which mounted perfectly:D and walaa nice picture easy focus and way better than the projector i built originally now i just need to block out some of light spillage and you have an easy nice projector project took me about an hour to put together, will try to post some picture when i get decent cam, i projecting from about 10 ft and get about a 75 in pic. but do have quite a bit of screen door effect but that could be from my home made eggshell white screen or my sharp panel think if could get 15 in monitor would make even better picture . anyway just thought id fill you in

nice one bud, are u planing on making a small guide on how to retrofit a ohp to a 250wmh hqi? im interested in the pics and i think a small guide could help those who have alot of questions on the retrofit from time to time, also did u see any big difference in quality of the picture compared to the diylabs projector?

Thanks in advance

hmm hadnt thought about that be honest it was real simple just yanked everything out basically someone with more no how could have rewired for switches and stuff but all wires were red and not really marked so didnt mess with . i wouldnt say theres a big diffrence in picture i may have had a little less screen door effect but not sure everything seems to line up pretty much the same way as far as optics , it was just super easy and less time consuming than building the diylab version.

ya, anything thats ready made saves one hell of alot of time lol especially when u got to fully handcraft stuff like angles and boxes out of flat alloy plate ect, when i go back to australia ill be right i can get all of the gear i need there and ive got all of my tools. im thinking in making up a clasifieds thread soon for people who want to sell gear in this part of the forum just for video projection related gear, thinking in getting it pernament so if u have any gear for sale like some spare ohp's u have laying around it might be a good place to post it as it wont get lost in the threads like the rest, anyway bud keep us posted on your experimenting.
