i have a very small budjet and have know idea what all the thecnical terms are and don't know any thing about making amplifiers but want to make one i need step by step help and pictures if you can help please e-mail me at

I think it's important that you tell us what your budget is. How many watts (4/8 ohms) did you have in mind? Can you make the pcb yourself?
Without knowing anything about your demands, have you checked LM3875 or LM3886 and their AN-1192.
Check also Thomas Madsen's pcb Das Modul
To be totally honest, if you don't have the power supply parts already building your own amplifier isn't a good deal. Better to buy a used amp. It's more fun though to build your own amp. |

Years ago my sisters boyfriend showed me a picture of a crappy
looking 20W amplifier on the cover of an electronics magazine,
that he was seriously thinking of building, cost around £70.
He didn't know much about electronics.
I asked him if he had the £70. He did.
I got him in the car, took him to a 'discount' retailer, pointed to a
very good (at the time) and svelte looking 35W Trio (Kenwood)
amplifier on sale for £50 and said -
"See that - go into the shop right now and buy it" - which he did.
I didn't save him £20, I saved him £70.
I do know something about electronics.

If you know absolutely nothing, a very good place to start id G.Randy Slones book "Electricity and Electronics" Check Amazon for it.
Work your way at least though building a lab power supply. If you can do that successfully, you will be in bwtter position to judge for yourself whether you can (or still want to) build an amp.
If you want a total top to bottom kit with full instruction, the only thing I'm aware of are the Vellemam kits available in North America from www.qkits.com. Heathkit and KnightKit have goone the way of T-Rex. |

I would also recommend:
The Audiophile's Project Sourcebook by G. Randy Slone
ISBN 0071379290
The first book gives a very through explaination of how class B amplifiers work. Very well written and easy to understand if you are familar with electronics.
The second book feels a bit rushed, but is worth it because of the chapters on pre-amp, tone control, headphone amps, etc.
One should be able to get them both on half.com for $20 US each.
