Does anybody know the response times to the Viewframe Spectra C?? On http://members.cox.net/rolm/results.html it isn't listed. Also I have seen some pictures floating around diy that don't have the SVID connector. I won this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...item=3444251928 auction. This is my first intro level projector system. I am using the dukane 4000 model series ohp with it.

I think its responce time is around 30 MS so preaty good panel wise, at 30 ms I dont notice any Ghosting on movies etc.

I got the Dukane 4003/spectra C setup and its nearly perfect, I dont notice any flaws at all. I use the analog VGA inputs on the panel and the VGA Theater 2 box. I connect my VCR to the cable input on the vga box. I'm very pleased with the whole setup, I probably wont try any hardware improvements for quite a while. I just gotta make a frame for my screen material. I caught my spectra C panel on Ebay with all the accessories and case for 52.00.

One can buy Spectra C for $100 at Inventory Solutions. Why is yours more expensive?
ksavage68
how is 52.00 more expensive than 100.00? most of the decent panels with all accessories and power supplies run close to 100.00 or more just about anyplace. I was lucky to get the one I have for only 52.00. you just gotta keep a good watch on Ebay, it might take several weeks. after all was bought, including new DVD and VCR players, my TOTAL cost for projector system was only 300.00, and that includes the wall screen material. If you get the parts I did, you cant go wrong, I promise ya.. :D

oh scuse me, I thought you meant MY screen. I scrolled up all the way to see the first post. my apologies dude. yes that is kinda high for the Spectra C..BUT..if the seller can guarantee it works and if it comes with everything needed included, then I dont think its too bad of a deal. might wanna drop the price about 10.00 I think anyways..

:smash:

it's ok :)
you right. if one want to have carry case & docs - may be they worth it...

btw, could you tell me what bulb (MH I presume) you use with yours SpectraC? I mean how many watts? How much have you paid for ballast if don't mind me asking?

Thanx :)

No metal halide for me just yet..$$$. Actually I see no need for it, I have a pretty bright picture without whites being TOO bright by just using the 410watt FXL halogen bulb. I get about 4,000 lumens which looks plenty good to me. I do show movies in total darkness, though, any lights on and it will wash out the picture. I only watch movies sometimes, so I dont worry about halogen bulb life yet. I think the most important component is to have the VGA theater box, it has lots of picture adjustments and shoots a perfect signal to the panel with no loss of brightness.

Man, I tried 100W Halogen for the sake of experiment first and almost burned my panel with it! I placed lamp 2 feets away from it and still fresnel almost fryied it :(

hey Easyprey have you used 110v halogen? I checked a 12v / 50w halogen lamp few minutes ago. There was little heat, it was warm.

So 110v halogen probably works at 200 - 250 celcius degree. 12v halogens are quite cool for diy pJ.
EasyPrey
You right, I used 110w Halogen. And it was pretty hot - about at least 100-200Ñ I think.
May be I should try 12v Halogen instead - although I'm afraid 50W will be too dark, hm..
HouseMachine
Actually I will probably try 5 or 6 halogens ( or eco bulbs ) in one box.

Expert fellows warned me but I will try it. Metal halide kit is impossible for very long time :) because of the price...

I will use some reflector and fresnel lens ( for light path)
ksavage68
the good thing about the Dukane 4003 is that the hot bulb is actually behind the fresnel instead of under it. it uses a mirror to reflect light up to the fresnel lens. My LCD panel runs super cool with no worries. The fan pulls cool air crosswise thru the back portion of the OHP and the outgoing air is just warm not real hot.
I would suspect with a bigger or higher flowing fan, you could put a hotter MH lamp system in it fairly easy with no worries about melting the LCD or fresnel.

I've read a lot of negative opinions cc multiple (halogen) lights here. And I've seen couple 250W MH kits (ballast+bulb) for $50-60. I Wouldn't say that's too expensive. If you've paid $100 for LCD panel you still under $200 :)

CC hot air - funny thing is that in my setup air was cool! It was panel that became hot (or my hand put between bulb and panel). That's what suprised me. May be my fresnel setup was wrong though...

hehe I don' t live in US. or europe eek: metal halide kit prices very funny here... ;)

ebay way is also expensive because of the f.ckin duty ... tax !!
EasyPrey
oops...
you right, duty tax is freaking thing heh. When I lived in Russia, my whole business was only possible thanx to it, heh :(

may be you should DIY a ballast - I saw a lot of info here...
Man, after that BIG dark spot in the center of my panel I'm even afraid to turn in on for a minute, lol :))
