New large projector/computer frame - Click HERE for Original Thread
Hezz
Here is my latest incarnation that I hope to start on this holiday weekend. It is a large free standing projector that is designed to sit on a roll around pedestal and moved when not in use.

I have a bunch of 3/4 inch mild steel around and a welder so I am going to make use of that even though it will be a bit heavy. I think I have found a good way to reduce weight in other areas.

The design is not complete but it shows the frame and the incomplete light pipe.

your design looks really good. What software did you use to do your cad drawing?

Here is a 2D diagram of the size and proportions if anyone is interested.

A few unique things to point out on this design.

1) The lower left hand compartment is large enough to built a computer case support structure into it.

2) The light pipe fresnel will be longer focal length than usual so it rejects less of the non incident light.

3) The light pipe will recycle most light so that the LCD only gets polarized light.

4) The light pipe section will be isolated from the rest of the system so that heat cannot get out of control on the LCD.

Here is the goal for the light pipe section.

I will try to describe the parts. Most of you will recognize everything but some is not so obvious.

The blue horizontal cover at the top of the trapazoidal shape is a reflective polarizer. It will pass light of the proper polarization and reflect back into the light pipe light of the opposite polarization.

The condenser lens and the light reflector are obvious. This design uses a fresnel which is not shown of a somewhat longer focal length. Perhaps 16 -18 inches. The condenser is of the focal length where the focal points of the fresnel and the condenser should align.

Near the bottom of the trapazoid is a 1/4 wave plate and another reflector. This recycles most all of the light of the wrong polarity and reflects it back into the LCD by as many paths as are necessary to get through the fresnel.

There is an error on the drawing schematic as I forgot to update the drawing completely.

The dimension at the top of the picture which is obviously wrong is supposed to be seven (7) inches.

This is the new 3D workup with the new light engine concept. I think I am going to try this setup with some optimised parameters.

The design continues to evolve. I have now decided to make this floor standing large frame projector capable of handling 17 inch and 15 inch wide screen LCD's. In addition it will be able to utilize standard 15 inch 4:3 LCD's. It is intended to have wheel casters so it can be rolled around and the table is for the keyboard for the internal computer system. It height is determined by the center of the screen so no keystoning effects exist.
