Do we Hi-Fi nuts need to worry? How do we get nice clean AC line noise? May be battery is the only way to go then? What do you folks think? If the power companies are doing that every house power line with have internet signals whether you subscribe to it or not....

I read about this today... the power supplier in Quebec wants to piggyback broadband onto the existing grid. Nortel did tests and determined it wouldn't be feasible due to costs. Technically, they already use the grid to carry signals to traffic lights and radio broadcasters are against it because they use some of the wires for antennas.

No wonder the AC mains are so dirty, it's just a carrier for someone else's signals.

Still, couldn't most of this be removed with a band-pass of 40-80Hz?

it'll be easy to filter those signals out.

by the way, Belgium has been using cable to make phone calls , I think it is it's 6th year now, and you can still have a nice tv picture! :)

The more interesting point is that when a power line fails with that system is that TV, phone, power, traffic control, IP could all go down together, fun.

it's quite bad...and it affects the frequencies that Ham users use...so they are complaining already...there's a trial run here in Singapore already...in a few selected areas...luckily I wasn't selected...I wouldn't want all the funny stuff in my AC anyways...
