Hi all,
I have some custom made tray loading gear for Philips (and Marantz) CD players using CD-M4 and CD-M9 mechanism.
It is molded by ABS plastic and will not break like the original gear.
Send private mail if you are interested.

I have an old Rotel cd-player with a broken gearwheel. A shame on such nive cdplayer... |

| It may be worth doing a search for CDM9 gear and arcam. There is a post that mentions the Philips part number for the gear. I got some through my local Philips agent 2 months ago ex Philips Holland at about 3 Euro a piece..... |
|
|
| tubenut |
PS: They appear to come in and out of stock in Holland, perjhaps they do batches. The plastic on the new gears I have been getting is definately a different grade to the ones I replaced.
What player do you have?
975 and 970 definately use cdm9, 855/65 945/55/65 uses CDM4.
CDM4 does not strip gears often.... |

hi,

Thank you, Thomas, for your replacement drive wheels for the drawer on my Theta Pro Basic CD Transport, which had stopped dead the other week. I opened the case to find only a few teeth left on the drive wheel.
The teeth had been stripped off because the soft plastic gears had broken down from steady use & the case's interior heat.
Called Theta Technical: No parts left, I was told, without further help, leaving me with a $1,500 lump.
Nothing motivates me faster than to be told that something can't be fixed.
Off to the internet I went. Searching for "theta" led m to dyiaudio.com, then a message from Thomas in HongKong. Was I lucky!
Thomas has some replacement wheels he had made with tougher plastic, and would send me two by airmail to US for $25. I sent him the money thru Paypal and guess what?
The wheels arrived yesterday! Thanks Thomas. Thanks dyiaudio.com.
My Theta lump will be back in business as soon as I can mount the new wheel on the drive spindle.

Thomas:
Got up the courage today to install the replacement Theta drive wheel I got from Thomas in HongKong thru diyaudio.com.
With a magnifier lamp, working almost almost like a jeweler, I used an X-acto hobby knife with new sharp blade to clear the plastic debris from the broken gears from the top of the spindle shaft, gently, gently. then eased the damaged wheel off.
Cleaned spindle shaft with silicon lubricant, attached Thomas’s replacement wheel and it snapped on with a click!
I am so grateful to Thomas in HK -– especially after Theta said nothing could be done. Indeed!
Cheers Thomas!

Same here. I can tell you that the Marantz CD52 uses a CDM-4 chassis and associated tray gear. The CDM-9 gear is not compatible.
Philips no longer supply CDM-4 parts, but the CDM-9 gear wheel is available for those who need one. Part no. 33192. www.chsinteractive.co.uk.
Has anybody come across a CDM-4 gear wheel? Picture attached.
Cheers,

Gentlemen/Ladies :
As I review the various posts to the threads concerning obvious
manufacturing/design flaws in the tray gears of CDM-4 and
CDM-9 players it really irritates me that no single response
has ever been received from anyone associated with Marantz
or Phillips. The answer to our requests for this cheap plastic
part is that it no longer is in stock or available. You would think that with the numerous posts requesting help in trying to find a source for these gears that someone/anyone from these
companies would have the decency to suggest a path to repairing
these units which many of us have upgraded and do not wish to
trash just because these firms have abdicated their responsibilities to provide for their customers. When we parted with our money to buy these units the least we could/should
expect is that with the knowledge these firms had with the
failure rate of these gears that a source of replacements would
be made available. My Marantz CD-72 has been defective since the mid 90's and it only survives because a local repair shop
cobbled together a fix for the gear. Saul Marantz is turning in
his grave as he observes this forum. D & M Holdings, you should be ashamed. |

But of course it is still available.
I'll check with my supplier on Monday for quantities.
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/show...4075#post164075
The offer still stands, were it not that I'm not prepared to distribute the gear to all parts of the world.
I won't do a group buy either.
If enough gears are available, I might ship some to someone willing to do the distribution for all of us.
I'll keep you posted.

Hi Hugo,
I know the CDM-9 gear wheel is readily available (as per my post above). However, is the CDM-4 gear actually available? (For the Marantz CD 52). I am informed by Charles Hyde & Son in the UK that Philips have discontinued the CDM-4 gear?
Many thanks,
Mike |

If someone could supply a Philips # like 4822-xxx-xxxxx or position # from the schematic I might be able to find out.

David,
Full details of obtaining CDM-9 tray gear wheels via Charles Hyde and Son in the UK (they send items internationally) are on my post above. Simply use your US credit card to buy.
Hugo has very kindly offerred to try and locate a CDM-4 gear wheel supplier if someone can advise him the part number from a CDM-4 schematic (which I don't have).

4822 528 81329 is wheel #152 on the drawing.
If that is the gear you look for, it is unobtainable by me.
4822 358 10115 is the belt #141, also unobtainable.
The thread starter might still have some stock, we need to get his attention.

Does anyone know where I can find the following CDM-4/19 spare parts:
1) part number 300 40005: it is the pivot plate identified by number 52 in the disassembly diagram in the Rotel 855 service manual.
2) part number 013 40001: the small ball near the centering ring, identified by number 1 in the disassembly diagram
Those parts can also be used and picked from a broken unit.
Thank you.
Best regards.

Just been on the phone to Dutchwest in the UK. +44 1434 323232
For those who want CDM9 wheels, the are still available at £1.95 each plus VAT and postage.
As Hugo said earlier:
4822 528 81329 is wheel #152 on the drawing.
If that is the gear you look for, it is unobtainable by me.
4822 358 10115 is the belt #141, also unobtainable.
These are also showing as no longer available. The CDM9 wheels will come from main stores in Holland. Sorry, but I can't shed any light on the CD850 question.
Hope this helps a little.... :)

Hi, If I recall correctly, the geared wheel just snaps off.
Don't forget to use non aggressive silicone grease when you reassemble.

Hi
I have just taken an Arcam Aplha 5 to bits, because the tray does not move. No surprise, I need a replacement CD 90 wheel. I am finding it difficult to source.
Being an imporviser I have made a temporary repair using a piece of wesuit material applied like a washer onto the broken spindle. This works because it sponges into the teeth on the tray and has enough friction to do the job. I am happy with this for a week or so but would prefer to have the part. Please email me if you can supply.
Cheers
