JasonL

li_gangyi
any DDR memory?? Or LAN cards..
JasonL
no ddr memory

lots of network card's
li_gangyi
okie...reccomend me a good 10/100 lan card...with a driver that goes along with WinXP...Win2K
I'll get a few...and routers...hubs or switches??/ they do practically the same thing right?? why so many names??
JasonL
a hub and a switch and a router are all different..

A hub is either 1o base t or 10/100 base

a switch is about 500 times faster than a hub so a switch is 10/100 plus switch

a router is a firewall / Nat / ect ect print server lots more things about them and hand out ip's to you .. : O )
li_gangyi
essentialy they all do the same basic thing right?? I get this...a hub..for small networks..switch for a bigger version..and a router for lanning ur printer..right??
tiroth
No. Basically:

A hub takes data on one port and sends it to all the other ports, and vice versa.

A switch is smarter and sends the data only to the port(s) it needs to go to.

A router does something that neither a hub or switch can do. It translates and routes addresses to connect one network to another network. It need not handle things like NAT/DHCP but consumer models often integrate these features.

yeah what he said.

But he did a better Detail..

they expect to get money for hd's under 10 gig? wow

how much is your 10 gig? scsi? form factor?
JasonL
9.99us for a ibm ultra wide 7200rpm i believe.

Believe it or not. people buy them and some pay money ebcause they either have one that there software uses and is programed to use so they cant switch to a bigger one or difrent one so they buy a older one and if there in a jam they buy it for a good price.

last week some one bought a 80mb OLD OLD scsi hard drive for 100.oo us because he really needed it.

One mans junk is another mans life saver..
JOE DIRT®
