| Mr.Kh |
Saw this monitor and noticing it looks very similar to a CMV1515 and the model NEG A150X1 is the panel from the CMV1515; the NEG is for Nexgen Mediatech (http://www.nexgen.com.tw) I believe, but they don't seem to admit making this monitor (OEM relabel?), I can't find specs for it, but I figure you guys might be able to.
I see lotsa people looking for the CMV1515's - and I really want one, I'm willing to dish the cash (some anyway :P) but Circuit City won't ship to Canada, and shipping them in from Asia - as I've discovered is extremely pricey (for one piece, double the cost of the LCD). Alas, maybe this link will help some, but like I said, I'm not sure if this is the same, there are only hints - you can have a turn at detective - also I believe the MIR expires soon.

NEXGEN belongs to Chi Mei group. I think that after all, the A150X1 is just a monitor model, not a panel. However, none of the CMO panels have 15 ms RT and 16.7M colors, all 15" types list just 262K colors (www.cmo.com.tw). The CMV is Chinese company but belongs to the same group.
All A150X1 monitors have these specs:
White label A150X1 15"; 1024x768; 300:1; 220cd/m2; 30ms; MM
Here's one A150X1-T02 :

|
|
| Mr.Kh |
Yep, looks like the "White label" is a POS. :P
Regarding the model numbers.
The link to the CMO site was useful, but their LCD products listing is severely outdated, when availability is listed as years ago, the Simplified and Traditional Chinese versions appear to be more up to date but still quite outdated.
The pictures from the thread http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/show...15&pagenumber=1 suggest that the model of the monitor(CMV1515) is A150X1 (from the casing) but the PCB near the CMO logo appears to read A150X1-T01-S REV-A (possibly T02 - but I doubt it). The A150X1-T01 and A150X1-T02 have been seen as "white labels"
I'm curious if brainchild can confirm his numbers(PCB) are the same as LOOie's.
If only CMO updated once in a while :P |

| So the CMV 1515 / A150X01- *T05* is the one with 24-bit colors, 500:1 (or so) CR and 15 ms RT?? |

So is this CircuitCity LCD monitor a CMV1515 or 1512 ?
Is it worth buying ?
I just want an LCD monitor that is easy to take apart, and I hear the 1515 & 1512's are easy. So is this CircuitCity like one of these as far as taking it apart ? |
|
|
| VvvvvV |
search all this forum, they are easy but dont unfold completely without cracking. they are therfore best suited to a box design where the cuircuits on the sides can be on a wall at 90 degrees to the lcd. it is basically the best image.
read brainchild's and looie's posts and photos probably. |

| VvvvvV, Do you think this CircuitCity lcd is a CMV ? |

| Circuitcity has LiquidVideo NEG A150X1 For $229 after rebate again. look at this picture of CMV-1512. notice the model number is A150X1. I will go to CC and check it out. |
|
|
| water1 |
Yes check that out 18wheeler, I need to know.
At circuiy city the liquidview does have a sticker that say's 1512 on the back.??? But dose that mean it's a CMV 1512 ??
When you find out 18wheeler tell me what you know...Thank's |
|
|
| 18wheeler |
| Just got back from CC. the sticker on the back is the same as the one on CMV1512(posted above). When I got a chance to open it up I will post some pictures of interior, so people who own 1512 or 1515 can confirm if it is the same as 1512. |
|
|
| tmitch007 |
Now that would be a great deal. The CMV 1512 has the following stats:
Response Time: 15ms
Brightness: 450 cd/mxm
Contrast Ratio: 500:1
Are those the numbers that Circuit City has for the Liquid Video NEG A150X1 For $229? If so, I'm going up there today after work and buy one also!
Tom |

|
| 18wheeler |
the interior looks the same as cmv1515. We know 1512 has the same design as 1515, but has slightly different spec. there is no way to know if the LCD in this monitor has the same spec as 1512.
funny thing is I cannot find contrast ratio stated anywhere. not on the box. not on the manual. not on the CD either.
I will post some pictures later today, once the batteries are recharged. ( I know, I should keep a set of backup full of charge :( ) |
|

| Mr.Kh |
| Which one are you taking apart? The CC one? |
|
|
| tmitch007 |
I know what you mean 18Wheeler... I've been searching around all day looking for specs on this thing. Even what Circuit City's spec sheet doesn't list the specs that are important to me, like contrast ratio or response time. Here is the best specs that I've found so far:
http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.j...=befree&c=1&b=g |
|
|
| 18wheeler |
Well I have opened it up, put on the OHP and compared with other two LCD's I have.
overall it's a good screen. a little tricky to take apart but not too difficult. It is darker that other two ( one stop lower when using my digi camera to take a shot). response time seems fine, though I didn't test with games. I showed a clip of HDTV on it. image is clear and sharp.
Here is the comparison to other two LCD's I have. Sine this one is bigger than my OHP, it's blocked on the side. also the corners are darker, which can be solved by proper tuning.
I still don't know what its contrast ratio is. but I would say it is higher than 300. the color is richest among these three. At CircuitCity, NEG 17" lcd labled as 350:1, but there was no indication on this one anywhere. The employee in CC didn't help too much neither.
as I said the screen is darker. So a good light source might be important. I use Dukane 670 which has a 575W HMI lamp.
I will see if I can take apart the famous NEC 1545 and compare it.
by the way this is the sticker on its back. It is exact the same as CMV-1512 (picture above), including the spot it's pasted:
 |
|
|
| 18wheeler |
updated comparison pictures. Now includes NEC 1545V.
Conclusion:
this Liquid video A150X1 selling at Circuitcity is a good LCD monitor for DIY. It uses the same control circuit as those in CMV 1512 and 1515. In fact, its back plate is exactly the same as the one on CMV1512. but there is no spec for contrast ratio for this model.
So far only Circuitcity carries this model. CC had sale on this one before (oct. $299 - $100 rebate - $30 Giftcard, this week $299 - $70 rebate). So watch CC sale circular if you are interested in this LCD. $100 rebate may come up again. |
|
|
| Mr.Kh |
Wow, very cool. I was waiting to see that NEC - does look rather dim though (both 15's) Hard to tell just by the pics how good/bad it is. Good to hear dissassembly wasn't too bad. I'm still struggling with the flex cables on my 152T - but I'm making progress. So you say the colours are the best on the CC1512 out of the four? Definately not bad for the price, my 152T was 440CAD after tax etc.
However the specs mystery still seems to be present :( |

| tmitch007 |
Fine job 18Wheeler...very nice! I would be on my over to Circuit City now except for the 9" of snow outside! When I do get out I'm going to buy one... the price is right, the image looks good.
I don't know how well I'll handle the strip down since I am the only man alive with 10 thumbs. No....really...don't laugh... I have documentation...10 thumbs!
When you said "a little tricky" I got scared. I'm using an enclosure, so I'll be able to use this LCD. I'm still a bit in-love with the BenQ 567s... it has 400:1 contrast ratio. Maybe the snow is a good thing...give me time to clear my head....hmmm.
Tom |
|
|
| tmitch007 |
I was thinking about your question whether you should keep it or not... well to me it looks good, stripped down relatively easy and the price is right. I would say keep it. I guess what really interested me was the contrast ratio. I seem to be hooked on the fact the hight the CR the better the image.
I really got some good info on your comparison shots, that was very helpful. If you find the CR is 300 or less... would you still want it?
Have you seen or have a BenQ 567s? How do you think it compares to that one? (self-serving question on my part). The best price I've found so far on the BenQ is $276 and that includes shipping. This one is $239 after rebate, even with a 5% sales tax I'll make out better price-wise. I do like that BenQ 567s though... what to do...what to do?
Tom |
|
|
| mhelin |
| CMV1515 is better one if you have to keep the LCD in 90 degrees angle. If you use BenQ567s same way the light distribution is uneven and the contrast about 280:1. However, if you tilt the LCD about 12 degrees the contrast ratio of BenQ LCD will be 450:1 which is much better. Also with BenQ LCD you have to use split fresnel (two fresnels with the LCD in between). |

Here are some pictures. They may help you to take the lcd apart
First you need to remove the base:
use a flat screwdriver to pry out the cover. Then unscrew it.
Once you done that, you will see a single screw at the bottom. take it out and push the back cover upward. it should open. you may need that flat screw driver to loose it up.
once back cover is off, you need to unscrew 4 screws which keep the front cover on; and the smaller screws that keep those side metal pieces. now those wires should be exposed.
My camera's battery died after these shot. so:
after remove the metal piece on the top, there is another screw to keep the PCB board on frame. take it out.
unplug all the wires from the PCB board.
don't need try to remove the big gray metal piece. (I didn't realize that UNTIL spent an hour and removed it :(, I can tell you what inside: 3 U shape lamps in the light chamber)
turn the monitor over. There should be 4 screw at each corner. Now remove them and carefully remove the screen.
If you are going to use it on OHP, flip the lcd and put back to the original metal front bezel. dont forget to use a strip of tape to insulate the bezel.
I might skipped a couple of screws when I am telling the story. So whenever you cannot remove one of those pieces, stop and check if any screw is in the way. If you broke any piece during the process, put everything back together, walk back to CC and make sure you look totally innocent :D |

Hi,
I've just been to a shop in the UK called the computerShop
on they have a no name monitor there that is made by chei mie looks like a 1512.
The the sticker is the same as the circuit city one.
The guy was saying that it needed a Digital connector? sounds odd
Does the 1512 need a digital connector or was he talking bo********s?
THanks |
|
|
| slikk |
I don't know why he said that to you. He probably meant that the A150X1 does not have a digital (DVI) input, but has only an analog (regular VGA) input.

I just got back from CC and they had the stats posted for the A150X1. mhelin was right, 300:1, 30ms. :bawling: I had got myself all psyched up to get it until I saw that.
I would have to say that it looked better than all the other lcds that they had on. Brightness was great, color quality was very good after a little tweaking. I tried to adjust some of the other monitors, but it did not make as much difference. When I stood far back and looked at the whole display, the A150X1 stood out from all the others in brightness, which made the coloration look much better. It had the best viewing angles too, with very little change in quality from right in front to way off on the periphery. Video playback on it left a little to be desired, but it was still decent. I decided not to get it and to think about it for a night. I had ordered a BenQ 567S, new for $350 with shipping, which seemed a little steep, but then saw the $60 rebate offer at CC was on again, so I cancelled the order and went to check it out. Without the BenQ to try out, I am not sure if the extra $$ it would cost is worth it. I guess for $100 less, I can live with the NEG. |

Has anyone confirmed what the CR on this thing is? the CC one?
It seems that it is on sale again for a total of $240 after rebates. The offer ends tonight. if anything, I might go buy it, take it apart and see how nice it is...
if I dont like it, I'll put it back together and give it back to 'em ;-)
so, can anyone confirm the CR?
Thanks!

I actually just bought the LCD from CC.
Ihave completely disassembled it without breaking anything :-D
One thing that is amazing is how clear it is. When I first took apart the NEC 1545v, I turned it on, and looked through it... with a 100w light bulb, I could barely see a small part of the screen. With this thing, I put a rechargable flashlight behind it at a 90deg angle... not even pointing directly at it... pointing from the side, and I can see every single pixel. even with ambient lighting, as long as there is nothing underneath it, I can see the entire picture with no light behind it.
This shows 2 things:
light doesn't need to be so polarized like my 1545... this means a trapaoid light contraption will help alot! doesn't matter which angle the light comes in, its comming out!
Also, it is so much more transparent, I am willing to bet I will see at least 2x more light on my screen... if not more. I cant wait to get it mounted and in my PJ! Maybe I should start thinking light engine...
Just thought that I would encourage everyone to get this LCD, its a great buy. I am not too sure what the contrast ratio is, but it is much better than my 1545v, and that is either 250:1 or 300:1, either way, I find it hard to believe that this thing is only 300:1.
i am almoast glad that I toasted the connectors on my NEC, this guy is amzing, and can't wait to see it in action!

Its a 1512.
I just wanted to note that the whites were much clearer than the whites on my old LCD. I am not sure how dark the blacks are, because I can not really tell by using a flash light.
I'll let you guys know how everything goes tommarow.
thanks for the info VvvvV! I could never find that information.... It seemed everyone thought it was either 300:1 or 500:1 or even 550:1.
out of curiosity, where did you find that info?
Thnaks! |
|
|
| VvvvvV |
all the vendor specs for the 1515 are 500:1 or 450:1 depedning on the website, i think someone here possibly talking about the polyview mentioned the 1512 is 400:1 as opposed to 450 for the 1515.
someone described a trick for dissassembling the 1515 where you can somehow dextrously flip the flex cable around one of the edges making the the controller boards at good angles to the lcd panel... i dunno for sure how they did it.
sounds like a really really good quality panel there man, hope that i can obtain one like this sometime. |

| Does anyone know of any place to get a CMV1512 or CMV1515 now? Circuit City no longer has their imitation 1512, and all the places online that used to sell them for good prices no longer have them. The only places I've found online that sell them are $450+! A year or two ago you could get the 1515 for $225 shipped. Now its impossible to find and the prices have doubled. There has got to be a place to get this monitor for a reasonable price. Also, if anyone has one they are willing to sell, could ya send me an e-mail? |

Most if not all of the 1512's out in the uS are the white label (300:1 / 16-bit). The LiquidVideo included.

I'm facing the same problem. Unfortunately for us it's not going to change anytime soon - 15" lcd are relatively pricey nowadays because manufacturers are pumping up their 17" production capacity so 15" are scare on the market at the moment as all
the available lcd substrat is being cut into 17" and bigger screens..
The best way is probably to get them directly in china where they must be dirt cheap but I don't anyone who makes a frequent business trips overthere :@ (
However, there is actually an opposing trend in the area of smaller displays like 7" lilliputs and 10,4" toshibas etc. which are more plentifull and afordable than there used to be..
Btw. in the meantime try LG 1510 or something similar instead |

I just bought one of these off ebay, and I love the picture quality. Just one thing, though:
it keeps flashing on and off. Sometimes it doesn't do it for a long time, other times it flashes on-off-on-off constantly. Even the green power light goes off when this happens.
Can anyone advise what might be wrong with it? Could it be the AC adapter?
And does anyone know where I can find drivers for WinME? It seemed to autodetect the monitor, but maybe it needs a better driver.
I can't use it until it's fixed, so someone please help. Thanks :) |
