Mini-ITX LVDS Controllers - Click HERE for Original Thread
Ehuwiko
I've found a few Mini-ITX motherboards with LVDS controllers. For those not familiar with Mini-ITX, it's a small form factor type of motherbaord. They are very quiet, and use very little power. CPU, Graphics, Audio, and LAN are all integrated.

The cheapest one with an LVDS controller is $200. It's a 600mhz board, wich is decent enough for playing DVDs and most Mpg-4, and since the board has a PCI slot a TV card could be installed. For $230 you can geta 1ghz board. Anyone know anything about the controller or what type of screen could be used? This could make for a great all-in-one media PC.

Are you saying this thing can be used to run a raw lcd screen the kind you might find on ebay as a replacement screen for a laptop ? How do you attach it ? What kind of ribbon or flat flex cables would you use and where would you get it all?

hope this helps

and if anyone can find out the price of this LVDS PCI card.

Pardon my ignorance, but is that not a regular MDR cable, used in the defunct DFP interconnect standard? It's rather ambiguous to refer to anything as having an "LVDS" connector, when LVDS is a signalling strategy used in SCSI, DVI, DFP, and many other interconnects.

That helps a lot. Thanks.

Have you or anyone else looked at costs of these compatible screens this company lists? I found one but the prices were ridiculous. Over 400 bucks. I would have thought you should be able to get them cheaper than an actuall assembled lcd monitor?

I'd be very interested in this, It's considerably cheaper than any other controller boards we've seen, but does it work well?
Ehuwiko
Well, someone would need to test it. I'm thinking about buying a mini-itx board anyways, so I would definetly get one with an LVDS controller. The problem, as I understand it, Is that different LVDS controllers have different interfaces, so a specific LCD panel may not necesarrily work.

EPIA LVDS01 manual

EPIA M10000 w/LVDS01 for less than $200

So all I need is this motherboard and a lcd screen that is compatible? Do I need anything else?

Find some pulled-off laptop LCD with LVDS interface from Ebay (UK or Germany in EU).

What is the best way to find lvds laptop screens on ebay. There are no results when entering lvds screen on ebay. How do I find out what laptop screens are lvds compatible?
mariobros
Usually its not said if its an lvds screen you have to search if it is.There is quite a few on ebay.de on "fur bastler" which means for diy people.

i reckon there's about 4-5 types of lvds inputs, xga vga sxga, and this sort of variable. the itx board specs should have all this information already on them.

as far as i know sxga lcd 14/15 inch dell and samsung panels are available very cheap on ebay for like 60-70 dolla and that they are often sold by panel name rather than laptop part, so you can easily research the best panel and look for it and visa versa.
Ehuwiko
I think that controller only goes up to XGA.

compatability list on this via document stands at 8 LCD screens tested compatible when the manual was printed.

There is one thing I dont understand. Why are brand new screens compatible with a lvds pci card cost $450 when you can buy an entire monitor for $250.

According to this site http://www.midascomponents.co.uk/Di...t_displays.html

the UniPac LCDs in the bottom use LVDS. Searching Ebay brings up Compaq laptop LCDs which is suppose to be the same as UniPAC.

Looking from the pic I guess soldering is required if you donot want the mini-itx near the OHP.

Also this page from VIA's site http://www.via.com.tw/en/Solutions/wince.jsp
mentions the
Unipac 8" SVGA UB084S01-1) in couple of places

Also here is the pinout diagram for the 8" Unipac

Let me know if you find a 8" Unipac for cheap
