Hi folks,
Does anyone know what is hidden (apart from a transformer) inside the black box that comes with the Stax SR-34 electrostatic headphones?
If possible, schematics would be nice to have...

| There must be a diode multiplier for the polarising voltage. Sorry, haven't really looked. I had Stax in my 'junior' years when i believed opening boxes was bad :) |

Peter is pretty close with what's inside one. If you have a unit, open it and trace it out; should take 2 minutes.
I had one of these 20 years ago before upgrading to the Lambda range (which I still use). |

that's what I did.
The rotary switch (speaker/earphones) needed cleaning desperately, so I took and opened the mysterious black box. Man, was I dissapointed !
They made us pay all that for the twp connectors, a rotary switch, and two pathetic small transformers with thermal resistors (for safety I suppose) on a PCB!
There is not even a bias voltage. I learned elsewhere that some of them have the static charge on the foil which decayes ower the years, after which you'll need service 'sob*
TWO transformers... *pout*
Well, so much for the mystery... :bawling:  :bawling:
I guess this pretty much settles the topic...

| The ones that don't require bias votage are electret, not electrostatic and have always been the cheap range of Stax AFAIK. |
