Hi guys
I know many of you (as I) have been looking for a decent power amplifier cabinet. Well, it may appear that the wait is over. Trust our good friends from the PC business to come up with what appears to be a truly excellent solution - a good looking PC case with extruded sides, at least 1" deep fins - it is fairly huge.
My calculations: 200W power to dissipate with max 25 degC elevation yields a minimum of .125 degC/W. It might even be way better.

Cost is unknown for me at the moment.
What do you think?

I once bought a Fischer-type heatsink case from Schuro .
They are a bit cheaper than directly from Fischer.
Although I canīt say that I like to work with metal and do a good job at cutting and drilling it Iīd say itīs not worth buying those cases. You get so much more cooling for the same price and there are nice heatsinks out there with screw holders already.
This is especially true for class A circuits and just my 2 cents.
One more thing:
Once your amplifier works you might think : "What a pity the case is not my own work..."
My amp and the Fischers
heatsinks with screw holders
But I have to say the PC case looks really cool! |

Nice amps and nice schematics, joensd. Fully symmetrical front end with folded cascodes - how does it work, how does it sound? Have you done any distortion measurements?

It is very warm, powerful and relaxed sounding if was to find some words for it. ;)
Itīs the Crescendo ME amplifier from Elektor.
Only problem it needs DC servo. Protection+Servo
I havenīt done distortion measurements as I donīt have the equipment for it but they look promising if you want low THD.
I can look for the complete article if youīre interested.
Cheers

As an inspiration and the tip the schematics is enough. DC servo should be a standard part of DC coupled amplifier.
Thanks, Pavel |
