I have read as many threads as possible about the volume selector for the Balanced Line stage. Unfortunately nobody can dictate a balanced 4gang 5K pot for a reasonable price. I beleive that once building such a preamplifier you must buy a good pot. I beleive that the Dact Ct2 fits the price nicely but the problem is that it is 10K. Is this a problem? Can I bypass this problem and how? Also take into account that we in Europe do not have the ability to easily shop from US shops due to customs and courrier costs involved. The dact can easily be baught in Europe.
If anyone can give an alternative solution I would be more than pleased.
Thanks

Why don't you take a look at Elma stepped attenuators?
Borbely would be a great start.

Nickolas thank you, I will check Borbelies Elma attenuators. The relais solution is a bit complex for me.
Thank you for your replies |

Nickolas,
I only found the Elam series N audio switches to be ready made with resistors already soldered on the attenuator, but this pot is for 10K or bigger resistance!!! It is not available for 5K resistance. I will keep on looking. |

Nickolas,
In the past you were taking about the BI Tech. 6670 pot. Where can I buy it in Greece? The dealer Micronics Ltd does not have it.

This could be one solution among others.
Use the input P1 and P2 of 10K as a volume.
Remove the output P3 and P4, or use a simple output voltage devider (of Ra + Rb = 5K).

why not buy a goldpt stepped attenuator kit and solder in your own resistor values?
there are several websites that compute those values for you |

| I just received an email from Goldpoint. They will assemble a "custom" 5K pot for no additional charge. |
