Silly question: GC is class A or AB amp? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I don´t understand the internal LM3886 topology at all. I mean I´m confused. It works like a class AB... or A amplifier ?
Thanks,
Marcelo.

I do not know anything about electronics but from the experience that I've seen regarding power amp's physical size in real life, almost all class a amps are coupled to rather large heatsinks.

Not silly at all.
Since it is a cheap and basically "non audiophile" amplifier chip, it is biased AB, at relativley low quiescent current. It would not be possible to put a complete class A amplifier desgin at that power rating on a single chip, since it would be impossibe to get the power dissipation managed.
