unfortunately, when i checked in at 10:30pacific, they were playing faith hill. maybe they let the interns run the station overnight.

/andrew - loves him some real cajun music
gilid
Ever listen to Beau Jocque? If you like cajun, he is a 'must listen'
RADIOLEE
Thanks for the tip, gilid!

Faustian- they play a mix that's really interesting- a little country, blues, gospel, Memphis, zydeco, creole, swamp pop, all based in R&B. Give 'em a few songs and I think you'll be hooked like I am.

Anybody that wants to hear, IMHO, the greatest radio station ever, click here-

P.S. HOWARD DEAN FOR PRESIDENT!
jackinnj
try www.wfuv.org

is it Howard Dean or the George McGovern lookalike contest?
RADIOLEE
Dean is definitely not George McGovern. He is an articulate, charismatic, and electable man in the right place at the right time with the right message.

I refuse to vote for a pseudo-republican who tempers his message at the sake of his principles.

Will check out WFUV shortly, thanks for the lead!

Is KBON the station that does the live broadcasts from Fred's Cafe?
RADIOLEE
SY-

I've been listening steady for a month or so and haven't heard any remotes....

Paul Marx (the owner) is one of two live DJ's, otherwise the automation is handled by something call "ACER" (I believe).

Paul is sole owner and manager and determines the playlist, which he says has 19,000 songs, even for the other DJ.

It really is outstanding and I urge you to check it out.

Cheers

SY
I'd love to, if only I had broadband...

Zydeco and traditional Cajun music are just wonderful. The 10 bar thing is rhythymically so interesting for those of us who have gotten accustomed to 12 bar.

At least we've gotten to see Ida Guillory from time to time in San Francisco.
RADIOLEE
SY-Not being a musician, I wasn't aware of the ten bar progression. What is it's structure?

Lee
SY
Uhhh.... ten bars. The chord progressions are standard, even a lot of I-IV-V, but the timing is a bit jarring the first time you hear it.

I had seen a PBS show about Fred's, then visited there once with a buddy from Ville Platte during a live show. It was, he assured me, a fancy get-together because the musicians were wearing shoes.
RADIOLEE
I'll pick up the bass guitar and try to get a handle on it, thanks.

I am definitely planning a trip to Eunice for Mardi Gras next year. KBON doesn't use nationwide advertising for their online streaming, so I feel like I know the place already.

I think that internet streaming is the future of local radio, but the programming has to be really strong to make it work.

Make sure you take your shoes off. Having six toes on each foot helps the authenticity.
RADIOLEE
That would also come in handy for stomping grapes out by you, dontja think? How are the grapes this year? I make wine every year with juice from Lodi. Probably squeezing it right now.
SY
It's an unusual year. It's running late up here because of the cold spring; it will probably be the same in Lodi. Down South, the grapes are already coming in fast and furious- my buddy from Ville Platte (now living in San Juan Capistrano) just got in Syrah, Zinfandel, and Viognier from Cucamonga.

What? You don't use native Minnesota grapes??!?
RADIOLEE
Be serious.
SY
I understand that Catawba and Scuppernong are the local favorites.

AFAIK, they don't make wine in Louisiana, but they sure know how to drink it.
