Apologies in advance for the newbie question.
When a transformer is rated with VCT (ie 25VCT at 8A), does that number represent the voltage across one of the leads and the center tap, or across both outside leads? So, with that transformer, with the CT grounded, do i get +25V on one lead and -25V on the other? And where does the amp rating apply?
Or, I could be more to the point, and ask if anyone has used any of ApexJr's transformers for the Zen.

It means that there will be 25 VAC across the outer
leads, and 12.5 VAC between the center and each
of the ends. If you make a dual (+-) DC supply out of this,
you will get about +/- 17 Volts DC, both referenced to
the ground which is the center tap. This comes from
12.5 volts times the square root of 2 (1.41) and substracting
some diode and loading loss (a couple of volts).
You can use this for the Zen by simply ignoring the
center cap and getting about +34 volts. |
