I've finally got hold of a small digital-camera. I took a few pictures to show how it looks right now. The amp has occupied my entire kitchen-table. :D
So far I've just tossed all files in one folder for you to browse, but I hope to make a webpage with some explenations in the future.
The circuit consists of two variacs. One to control the HT voltage and one to control the heater/filament voltage. I have 1 big RIFA-cap wich is bypassed by one smaller lytic and one polypropylene cap.
The rheostat was used for trying different biasing-points for the KT88.
The test-sockets are home-made. I used a alu-box and just drilled everything to place. I've attached 4mm banana-binding posts with crossholes so I can connect the legs from resitors and caps etc. between any connections points and at the same time use regular banana-plugs for all my other connection-needs. The binding-posts in the corner are used for grounding the circuit. I know it's not exactly star-grounding, but it works well for evaluation purposes.
Anyhow.. here are the pics. Have fun! :cheerful:

Mikael,
Big output transformer - Sowter special.
The power transformer looks like a control gear 230v to 414v job.
I use 2 variacs exactly like those. My smaller one has a toothed gear on the shaft. I don't know what it came from.
You are so neat and tidy - it makes me ashamed...
Cheers,
edit - corrected name spelling |

Hi John,
Here is my workspace a while ago..
It looks a LOT worse at the moment.
.can you imagine how well my amps must sound..
Cheers,
Bas
PS..Hopefully you feel better about your own work bench.. |

Mikael,
The question I want to ask you...is.....
What does it sound like?
Cheers,
Bas
PS...I found out why a larger value resistor provides more amplification...will tell you later.. |

It sounds heavenly. And that's with my old denon dcd-315. I suspect that it can sound even better with a good source.
The sound is extremely dynamic.
I would like to thank:
Alf Larsson, a co-worker who helped me get started and the one who let me borrow his oscilloscope
Jan-Erik Lindqvist, another co-worker who's given lots of great ideas and tips
Everyone here for all you help, and escpecially Bas for putting up with all my questions. If it wasn't for you, I don't think I would have got this far.
Eric Barbour, for taking the time to look at me circuitdrawings
Brian and Ruth Sowter, for making the most wonderful transformer
The guys at the svetlana-factory for outstanding tubes
My family, for all support. They do think that should clean up my kitchen table... And I probably will some day... :)
Everyone that I haven't mentioned who has contributed
Thank you all so much. If anyone ever is in Jönköping/Sweden, do pay me a visit. It would be great fun! |

That's one of the places great amps are built. I enjoy building and playing with mine far more on the coffes table in front of the main system than on my workbench. Having no kids, and a dog that stays away from my stuff ever since he licked a PP9 battery helps.
Congrats on the amp. Glad you're enjoying it. |

PS..Hopefully you feel better about your own work bench.. | Bas, this is a real scream. I can hardly type properly because I am laughing so much at the same time.... The point is, I put in my post that I was the owner of the SECOND worst workbench etc because I thought someone would ask who did I think had the only one worse than mine? If they did ask, I was going to post a link to the thread I started "What does your computer spot look like?" and in particular to *YOUR* diorama of chaos theory in action. Well, you beat me to it. LOL hee-haw cough choke gag gag ahhhh ha ha ha hooeee ho boy!
Yer a top bloke, Bas. |

Hi Circlotron,
You should see it now...I can hardly get into the room!
I sometimes clean it up...but as soon as a project starts...chaos!:bawling:

Hi Bas and others,
Thank God you have a work place like that - when you are in the middle of a project. I once was visited by a senior manager from Hitachi Japan who was in cahrge of me when I was a trainee there. He had given me lots of components and manuals when he found that I was interested in making things.
This time he wanted to see my room ( at home) which was in its worst condition. He insisted and so I was forced to show it to him. He looked at the mess and then nodded his head and said " Very good mess .. very good mess ! All innovative thing scome out of a mess".
My folks at home still do not accept my "innovative mess".
Cheers.
forgot to add: Can you imagine what my 'bed' looks like. You'd never guess! Scope , books ,CD's etc. |

Hi Ashok and others,
This morning when my wife left for work..she leaves much earlier..I went to my "Work room" and took the completed kits I had soldered last night...and laid them on my wife's pillow!!!
:smirk: and just looked at them until I had to get up!
I know...I need help...Thank god I did not forget to put them back.

That may be a little more personal info than we need. LOL.
I'm glad you had to go because I'm not sure we would have wanted to know what happened next.
But, Darling, it was only a little Foreplay on your pillow |
