Hi, I found these going on ebay, and although I would like to build a DAC, I'm in the middle of trying to get my pre and power amps done first, so if anyone else wants them, have a look;

Also, you can find the data sheet for their replacements below, the only diference is that these ones will not work at 96kHz input, but that is mentioned in the data sheet.

We need a datasheet for the actual device to see if it's DIY usefull.
The previous '11 receiver needed a serial interface to control it.
And why is it obsolete so quickly? Was there a problem?

Cheers,

the chips in the data sheet are pin compatable with the CS8411 (well the CS8413 is, the other one is a replacement for the CS8412), the only diference between the models is that they have added the capability to receive 96kHz PCM data, and they canged some fo the output codes to identify this new mode of opperation. Otherwise, as far as I am aware, the chips function in exactly the same way, so you can design from the CS8413 datasheet, but not use the higher data rate signal.

Oh, one more thing, just because the reciever can't decode the 96kHz PCM data, it can still be used for an upsampling DAC, just as long as the input signal is comming from a source operating at 44 or 48 kHz.

I think.

Sorry, forgot to mention, if you look on page seven of the data sheet it tels you the differences between the models.

Me again, I found a coppy of the correct data sheet, not on the cirrus website, but still the right thing I think. You'll find it below;

Hmm, so is it useful without a processor?
Someone with superior computing power:rolleyes: is required...
bigparsnip
Didn't notice that one, but I guess it couldn't be too hard to get a PIC chip up and running to do the job, especialy if you had enouugh of the things to do 28 boards.

:cannotbe:

I'm not saying it's not feasible. Just not feasible for me (old codger who last wrote code 25 years ago):dead:

BTW what's with the parsnip? and why is it big?

Cheers,

Not as bad as it sounds. I am about 6foot three and I have ginger (not red tough :eek: ) hair. A while ago, when I was still at school I started arguing with some people who decided to call me a carrot (I'm a little pedantic at times). Arguing that carrots are orange on the bottom, with green on the top, so surely by thier logic I looked more like a parsnip, as I was white, not orange on my bottom half. And it just stuck (to be fair these people were my friends, and it was all my own fault), but I always seem to be able to sign up on forums using that name, so it's kinda useful.

I'd better not argue with you then. You've got 4" over me ;)

Hello.
I realize this is a 3-year old thread, but I really need to ask. Did any of you guys got those CS8413 on ebay? I need one and I canīt find it anywhere.

Thx
-Alexandre
