Bias Tap on Hammond Trannys - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have Hammond 300 series power transformers with a 50VAC "bias tap" off the 375 volt main secondary.

What do you do with this tap? Boost filament voltage to stay within tube differential specs?

My schematic doesn't call for this tap to be used. Do I just insulate it and leave it unconnected, or should it be grounded?

If you're not using so-called "fixed bias" (i.e., a negative rail to supply the grids), then just put some heat-shrink at the end of this lead and coil it away somewhere unobtrusive.

If you want to be ambitious, you can use this lead to make a simple DC supply for floating the filaments above ground. But that's a story for a different day.

Hammond wound that transformer for us guys who wont blow up the house with 50 volts....just insulate and tuck away
