Would optical connection reduce clipping? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I get a lot of "clipping" when playing my MP3s. Its not audible but my clip indicator light comes on all the time. My connection is stero miniplug of my soundcard to left-right RCA on my receiver. I am thinking about getting a Digital I/O expansion card for my soundcard that has optical out. Would using optical connections reduce or eliminate the clipping or distortion I am getting?

Yes, in theory. How much is the i/o card going to cost? Doesn't your soundcard have a variable output?

I had the same problem on my computer. If you are using Winamp to play your MP3 files, you can adjust the preamp output level in the equalizer pane (right-click on Winamp and select Equalizer).

Of course, you have to use the line output of your sound card.
