PSU for my linestage, will it work. - Click HERE for Original Thread
Bas Horneman
Hi all,

The reason for my question is that I have never used a ccs and vr tubes in a psu before..

TIA,
Bas
Bas Horneman
Please disregard the wrong symbol for VR tubes and EY81 but Switchcad does not have them and drawing them is a *****..

O...and the bottom EY81 needs some AC as well
EC8010
Why are you using two EY81? It has a common cathode and a pair of anodes.

Neons on their own aren't ideal, and I wonder if it might oscillate. Still, you won't find out until you try. Just keep an oscilloscope handy.

EC8010,

The EY81 is one of the TV boost diodes we've been discussing. They only have 1 rectifier per envelope. Bas is just short on schematic symbols.

Cheers,
EC8010
Ah. That would explain it. I should have realized!

I'm wondering if there is enough voltage to fire the gas regs reliably.
Perhaps I'll simulate it tomorrow.

Also a reservation of mine!

Apperently they oscillate in the presence of capacitance..that's why Lynn Olson uses no capacitance. See attached schematic.

However I saw that Gary Pimm used a 0,056uF sovjet teflon..and Gary P works at Tektronic so I reckon a scope won't be necessary!

The datasheet for the 0A3 & 0D3 specifies maximum shunt capacitance as 0.1uF so your 0.56uF is safe.

Bas,

Image taken from:
http://www.thermionic.org/types.html
Shows the combined strike voltage to be:
OD3: 160V
OA3: 100V
=260V

More to follow...

Here is your PSU:

Huh, this 60 second thing is a bore......
dhaen
Bas,

I think you need more volts to start with.
Also, with apologies to James, I'm not sure if the parallel capacitance limit is valid when the combination is fed from a constant current source...or is it?

Cheers,
Bas Horneman
Thanks John,

Just saw my tranny is 290v!!!!

Grrrrr ;)

Mmmm might just have to get a different power transformer..!!

I get around 250v with 6D22S full wave ...and 820nF as fist cap

James, John, EC8010,

Thanks so far...I guess I will just have to try it out!

I mainly wanted to know if there were mayor flaws in the design..

apparently not!

Cheers,
Bas
