Heh, you bought it before you knew any specs. Nice price!
If the PJ already has a reflector and condensor lens it would be a near perfect buy.
Good luck! |

| anyone had experience with similar OHPs and panels, work well? Halogen bulbs watchable? |
|
|
| sparkmaker |
| Halogen is watchable just run alot hotter than the Metal Halides you hear about in the forum.Usually due to the higher wattage that they require to put out the needed lumens. Some also say they give a more yellow light than the MH's. |

Ok OHP should come soon if the irritatingly slow ebayer ever sends it. Anyways what are other peopls experiences with simlar set ups:
OHP with 400 watt bulb / 4000 lumens
Decent projection panel?
Thats my set up when I get the damn ohp. Would this set up b good? or will I be after an upgrade quicktime?
Cheers

I hope by now you've had good experiences with your set up.
I too, use a 400W/36V Halogen which I find to be really good. I recently got a Metal Halide OHP, and am quite disappointed with it...it is only marginally better than my halogen.
If you want to know more, see my threads "ohp comparison" and "the pepsi challenge"
Also, my OHP used to overheat when I used it with an ovation panel, but is okey now I use it with my Powerview panel. To be honest, I mostly use it on the economy setting (75%) anyway...I hardly notice the difference in light output! |

| your OHP might need a new bulb if its only marginally brighter than the halogen model.....MH dims as it ages |

I thought this might be the case, so I swapped out the bulb for one I know has not had much use. This was my second MH purchase - I was disappointed with the first MH OHP I bought, but put this down to the fact that ot didn't use a condensor lens, and only had a singlet objective lens.
The latest one I bought has a condensor + triplet overhead lens and is rated at 12,000 lumens.
As I have said, so far I can only see a marginal improvement in brightness.
The side-by-side test is yet to come....see my threads "ohp comparison" and "The Pepsi challenge"
I'm more than happy for anyone to prove me wrong on this whole issue - but lets see the evidence!
I just wanted to add that I concede the MH ohp is MUCH brighter with nothing on it! But as soon as you plonk an LCD panel on it, the brightness difference is marginal and this is the comparison that counts! |

why henrik_mork i too have done this test side by side with an elmo 305sd and 3m 9800 and came to the same conclusion the elmo was only a little brighter once the lcd was ploped on but the clarity of the 3m was outstanding theres no way i would use the elmo over the 3m
magajab thats a nice projector you have there and the bulbs are

The odds are really stacking up against MH now that I know that 300 Hour EVD lamps are available for $9.99 in the USA, and my regular lamp company in the UK sell them for £11.76
Halogen Long Life, 300hrs £11.76 + VAT = £13.81
HMI 575 SE, 750hrs £86.72 + VAT = £101.90
Halogen 4.6p/hour
MH 13.6p/hour
Magajab....let us know how you're going! |

I just called All Bulbs.. they said their page is over 2 years old and the current price is 13.99 and there is a $125 dollar minimum order.. allbulbs is no value when other places offer it for $12-13 w/ no minimums.
