Guys,
I'm seeking a supplier of 6922s. In order of increasing excellence the marques of choice appear to be NOS Philips 6922, then Tungsram 6922, then 6H23pi, then Siemens 7308 gold pin.
Does anyone have any experience in tube rolling and sourcing of this ubiquitous frame grid tube? Prices appear to be highly variable; for example what is the best Philips 6922, made in US, Holland, or elsewhere?
Cheers,
Hugh |

Hi,
First of, the 7308 is a closely related cousin of the 6DJ8 family but not an absolute equivalent.
If you need 1.000+ quantities I'd go for the Sovetk 6922/6H23Pi, it's easy to source from Aussie vendors unless you want to go through the hassle of importing them straight from a ex-USSR factory agent.
I know of at least half a dozen Aussie importers I sold to in the past but can't really talk about their rep in the audio field.
Maybe your fellow Australian members can shed some light on this.
Cheers,;) |

i can get some 6N23P via a friend of mine if you want.
i think they are a fair bit more expensive vs some of the other russkiy signal triodes..
still <$5 a piece though..
only relatively small qty though, i dont think he could source 1000 or something like that.. |

I do NOT recommend the Sovteks,
they sound dull and lifeless.
The older Sovteks are better though.
Better use the brands metioned at the beginning of the thread.

| I just have to say that I really enjoy NOS (duh) JAN tubes. Im running a JAN Phillips 6922 as the driver in my headphone amp and I have to say it sound pretty good. As for Sovteks, I haven't tried the 6922 but when I switched from Mullard 12AX7's to Sovtek 12AX7's I couldnt notice much difference. Thats my two cents. |

hi, Dmitry

Not all, the sovtek is not made in taiwan. But directly trade to taiwan & seperate to sell to all over the world.
I know because I direcly but sowtek tube for Lithuania.
thanks

| hehe, thomas that's a quote by the russian cosmonaut in the movie Armageddon, and you are right it's not true at all. i just think it doesnt matter where things are made just what the quality level is. russian tubes all made in russia, and made well. |

hi all,
If U can buy 1950~60's china made military 'J' or above grade 6dj8 also very good & cheap.
I use in my sonic frontiers SFD2 MKII Tube D/A Use.
Less Punch than Simens (W.Germany) & sowtek. But the mid-freq had 12AX7 series image.
But the disadvantage was shortly life than others.
But cheap price can cover all the worst point.
thanks
