Epson EMP-3500 Worth the money ? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi guys.

Im thinking about buying a broken Epson EMP-3500, but im not sure if its worth the money.

Some details:
Bulb has burned for 700 hours
Somthing in the ballast is broken, a few transistors i was told.

The price is 70 US Dollars.

Im not sure how much damage is done to the ballast, or if its fixable.

What do you guys think, is it worth the money, or should i just pass on the offer ?

Ive got the folowing ideas for making it work again, let me know if they are totally insane.

Here goes: Ive got a working ballast and bulb from a dead Infocus LP720, i was think if possible move the bulb from the infocus over in the plastic bulb case from the Epson, and scrap the Epson Ballast, and use the one from the Infocus.

Is it possible, or should i try to fix the ballast in the Epson EMP ?

Any help or input would be nice.

you could use the bulb and ballast from the LP720 although I'm unsure if it would be safe, you done know the amount of heat that bulb puts out in comparison to the stock EMP-3500 bulb, I would say don't buy this, for 70 dollars you could get a newer projector that has a burned out bulb and use YWH's replacements to fit a new one.

Another thing is your going to have to bypass the lamp check in the to allow it to work without the stock bulb.

the ballast could be damaged more than whats visible I wouldn't risk spending that much on something thats older technology when you could just as easily buy a newer broken projector and repair that instead.

I was going to buy an EMP-3500 but decided against it, instead I got a Plus U5 132 its sitting next to me now waiting for a replacement bulb.

hope this helps

Hi i did buy the Epson, just for the bulb and other spareparts, don't know if im gonna try to repair it, also got a working Epson EMP-3000 in the same deal for 70 dollars, so i think its was an okay deal.

The EMP-3000 is working perfectly.
