anyone have any comments on these, surely lots of people have experience with the foreplayIII.
but what about this decware plate preamp kit?
anyone have any comments on it and the family of tubes it uses?

Both of those line stages have considerable gain. You could easily end up with "hair trigger" volume control.
What level of drive is needed to get the GFA-1A to produce full power? |

I loved my FPIII, but had way too much gain. Instead of padding, I sold it and built (and modded) an Audio Note M7 kit off ebay (5687).
Sounds great, but still miss the FPIII... |

i'm using this preamp with it right now and the volume control is ok.

the high level output is way too much though...
my speakers are 84db sensitivity.
actually one thing i don't like much about the foreplay is the dual volume controls, i think i'd rather have a ganged volume.
also the foreplay interests me because i have found a kit for a nice price and i'd like to try building a tube amp after i build this and a phono stage. |
