So I've been listening to Abney Park recently and am looking for other "steampunk" bands. Any suggestions?
Anyone else like this very "Theatrical" genre? |

I didn't even know there were Steampunk tunes, I've seen the Datamancer site and Brass Goggles and have ideas for a bit of steampunk audio when the budget allows. A thread was started a while ago asking if anyone had done any "Steam-Fi" and it seems no one has...... yet.
Thanks for the recomendation.

| Steam-fi is what my current project is. I'm using old RCA field coil speakers with wood enclosures (laminated pine...this is for looks not practicality and I had boards laying around in my basement) (when I get around to testing the theil/small) for the left and right and a Typhany LAT I happened to have for the subwoofer...painted to look like it is made out of steel. I'm using cloth wrapped wire and big hex bolts for the various terminals. I haven't decided if I'm going to use big old oil caps or if I'm going to start drinking a lot again ( ;) ) and make beer bottle caps (I think beer bottle capacitors look more mad scientisty...at least drunk scientisty) |

Beer bottle caps, you learn something every day, generally a new way for me to electrocute myself!
Post some photos if you can when it starts to come together, it may set someone off and I would like to see it.

Actually beer bottle caps are quite safe so long as you don't try to drink the oil and salt water inside. I like using copper based salts so it would kill you dead.
The other kind of cool diy capacitor is taking a plain variable air capacitor and putting in in oil. |
