I am in the process of repairing a M&K VX-7 subwoofer that I inherited from a friend. I repaired the speaker by replacing the surround. (Went well; my first such repair) But I found out the the amp is fried. From my research I've determined that the amp for this sub is (was) 50 Watts.
I would like to use this 70 Watt amp:

The problem is that the speaker is a 2-ohm unit. The amp is rated for a 4-ohm load. Can I use this amp as-is? Or, should I put a 2-ohm resistor in series? |

| The speaker magnet has a sticker on it that says it's 2ohm, and I measured 2.5ohm with my DMM. |

| If your not in a rush, you might want to watch ebay for the correct amp. I've seen a ton of M&K parts on there since they closed their doors last year. |

Perhaps I should try a different tack on this request. Assuming that I am going to re-amp this sub with a 70 watt, 4 ohm capable amp,
Do I:
1) See how (of if) the amp can handle a 2 ohm load
2) Place a 2 ohm resistor in series with the speaker for safety
Won't anyone take a stab at this? C'mon, this must be child's play for some of you... |
