Anyone ever tried this? I have and discovered that it actually works, but what's the maximum current that I could source with this, and at what voltage?

You can look it up at Frank's. You aren't gonna get much since this is a small signal type, mainly useful for making passive mixers or detectors.

As Miles said, check the data sheet out. A draw of 18 mA. is safe. PIV is 330 V., which is OK for a bridge rectified preamp PSU. IMO, you will do better to use a hybrid bridge and avoid a doubled forward drop.
