chipped resistor.....how bad is it? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I made a tiny chip in the brown coating on a resistor, it is hard to see and is close to the lead.

Is the resistor shot?????

It's probably not anything to be concerned about. Most leaded resistors have metal caps near the leads so you probably didn't damage the resistive element.

Remove one lead from the board (should be able to do it without removing the board) and check it with a meter.

It should be just fine. The coating is just to insulate it, it has no other function.
