My main impression on sound quality is of a smooth and very musical nature. I have worked on various PCM1704 based designs both using op-amps and also using discrete output stages with no feedback loops. For me the PCM1794 design I present here betters them all.
Please note that this should only be attempted by those who are comfortable soldering surface mount devices. It is actually very easy but this is not the project to use as the learning curve.
