LYNX Power Amp PCB Group Buy interest - Click HERE for Original Thread
ACD
OK then...

I have received several wishes for a group buy for the LYNX PCB, so I will make this ONCE !!!

If you are really interested, please state so in this thread.
Price unknown until exact no. are known, but price per PCB @ 100 pcs. would be app. $13.00 or €9.00 + postage.

PCB's will be FR-4, 1.6 mm, 50 um copper, gold plated.

If there are many interested from the US, I hope someone "over there" would participate and distribute the PCB's there (save us all some costs)

Please note! This is just to check the interest.
No obligation before exact price is known ;)

Hello Jan,

I would be interested in building a few channels. I would buy 6 or more. It looks to be a fine design.

I live in sunny southern California, USA. I'd be glad to help out with distribution. Just let me know what you need me to do.

Best Regards,
Carl Huff
ACD
Thanks for offering your kind help in the US, Carl ;)

Now we just have to see how many is interested :)
marcus7601
I would be interested in one or two perhaps.
tinitus
One pair for me please:)
ACD
marcus7601;

One or two pcs. or pairs ??
audioDIYer
Hi Jan,

I'm in for two pairs (4 PCB's).
marcus7601
Sorry, one pair please.
AMV8
Hi

Thanks for organising the buy.

I would like 6 pcb's.

Don
builderandy
I want 2 pcb, thanks

/Andy
peranders
Jan, I think you can right away put up a wikipage for your groupbuy.
ACD
To my count that would add up to 22 PCB's now.....
steenoe
6 channels for me. Thanks, Jan.

:)
ACD
That would be 28 PCB's now :)
marcus7601
Will there be psu pcb available as well?
ACD
Not originally, but I can make one if there is common interest for it.
Landoctor
Jan,
I'm in for two channels of the Lynx v3.0 also.
Thanks,
Donovan
imackin
i would be interested in 4 PCBs. also would be interested in some psu pcb's
ACD
Now 34 PCB's.
And two interest for PSU PCB's
builderandy
I'm also interested in psu board. Do you have a schematic/layout suggestion for the psu board?

/Andy
Landoctor
Jan,
I think a PSU board would be a good idea, as long as it's more than the standard "minimalistic" PSU boards we see around here alot.

Maybe something that would accomodate (and utilize!) the MUR3020, 3060, etc rectifiers. (There are some PSU boards that have the mounting holes for them, but don't utilize them correctly/completely!).
There could possibly be mounting holes for screw type mount filter caps as well as the normal snap-in. Either for mounting directly to the board or wire connections. Nice mounting points for power chokes. Enough room for a complete CLCRC or similar PSU, etc.

These were just brainstorming idea's so nothing that's been totally thought out. I am just hoping to stimulate some discussion on creating a really nice power amp PSU board.

Thanks,
Donovan

Hi Jan

Thanks for the thread. I would like to express my interest for 4 off Lynx V3.0 PCB's and also PSU PCB's to build mono bloc amps.

Do you have link to PSU schematic or could you post it, thanks.

Regards

Gary..
ACD
Now 38 LYNX PCB's :)

PSU board;
I normally run this amp with a traditional PSU consisting of toroid, diode bridge and 20-40,000uF per channel.

I think it would better to start a new thread only for the PSU board group buy, as it is a new project and because others who have no interest in the LYNX amp could join in......

Would someone here start and take care of this thread (my spare time is limited at this moment) ?
I will then make the layout (and have the PCB made) according to what have been decided ;)
Carl_Huff
Sure Jan,

I'll give you a hand. The current LYNX PCB count is 38!

Best Regards,
Carl Huff
ACD
Thanks Carl ;)
steenoe
I can use 2 more boards, so make that 8 channels for me.

:)
ACD
Count is now 40.

I never did put a linke here for the PSU PCB group buy:

housing
I happen to find 8 pairs of 2SA1943(O) and 2SC5200(O) on the shelf. So I'll take a pair of the PCB if the price is right.

:D :D :D

Count is now 42.
gary s
Hi Jan

As the Lynx amp PCB count is up to 42 boards, how long will you keep this open before taking a commitment from everyone involved.

Anyone interested should indicate their interest here in this fine design.

Cheers

Gary..
ACD
I will properly take 8-10 PCB's my self, so the count is now 52.

I will get a price quotation for 50 PCB's, and return here with the price ;)

If there comes further orders afterwards, it can only make it cheaper for us all :)
ACD
Here you got the price for the PCB's:
Standard FR-4, 1.6mm/2x35um Cu, gold-plated

Price per board
@ 50 pcs. = €7,50/$11.00
@100 pcs. =€5,50 / $8.00

In the price are calculated fabrication costs and my expences (No profit for me !!!).
Also included are the shipment costs for the boards going to the US, and distributed there by Carl_Huff (thanks Carl ;) ).

Please note that shipment (from Denmark or USA) and PayPal fee are not included in the price.

Deadline for corfirming your orders and for new orders are Februrary 25th.
I will then contact each of you per email with further details.

Expected shipment date from Denmark is March 11th.

Payment by Paypal!
housing
Hello Jan,

How much will be the shipping cost to Hong Kong for two boards?

Thank you very much for all your efforts! ;)
ACD
Here is some price examples for the PCB snail-mailed in an envelope (up to 500 gram and not registered mail):

Inside Denmark: €3,50/$5.00
Other Europe: €6.00/$9.00
Outside Europe (exept USA): €8.00/$12.00

Carl_Huff;
Would you please inform the members the costs in USA :)
Carl_Huff
Sure,

I just checked to confirm. Shipping a 500 gram (or less) package anywhere withing the continental US from my address will be $5.00. That includes the shipping envelope and all postage. The price as quoted is USPS Priority Mail using their 'flat rate envelope'. Delivery in 2 days.

Do we know the shipping weight of each PCB?

Best Regards,
Carl Huff
ACD
Sorry but I don't have a small scale weight at home, however how much can 153cm2 (app. 23.56 square Inch) 1.6mm FR-4 board weigh ??
peranders
Jan, you can check how much my pcb's weight but notice that almost everyone has 50 um copper and some 95 um.

My Gainclone pcb is 152 x 120 mm and weights 74 g.
ACD
Thanks peranders ;)

Weight per LYNX PCB would then be 60 g.

:)
finneybear
Nice to know finally there is a group buy for this fine design! Two PCBs for me, please.

The count is 54 now.
ACD
Ok all !

Time to place your real orders if interested.

Just a thought and you don't have to answer: If the price is a couple of dollars less you are prepared to build 3-4 more amps for thousands of dollars. It doesn't make sense. Where is the economical logic?
peranders
Jan, I'll recommend you to set a up wiki page. It's much easier for everyone to see the present status.
ACD
peranders; I know, but I know nothing about creating a Wiki, or where to put it.....
Time is limited as I have to work many hours for the next days :bawling:
peranders
It's pretty easy but I can set up it for you if you want.
ACD
peranders :)
That would be a big help!
Thanks ;)
peranders
A wiki is set up now but please change where you should change. Maybe you should add the link in the sig also like I have done

Use Paypal and do all business in DKK, much easier. It's also convenient when you will have the shiping adress on the Paypal papers. You should also state the distribution plan. If you are pleased with the first page I can create (duplicate) a page for the PSU board but I'll guess it's now ready yet.
tinitus
Now I am confused...will I(we) have to place final orders once again...and where exactly ?

Ehh, ok ... I am in fore 2 amp boards :)

I'm in for 2 boards.

ACD
Welcome back Carl ;)
And thanks for your help :)
peranders
Jan, don't forget to correct the table for postage with the weight for the envelope!. My 150 x 215 mm envelopes weights 15 g.
Landoctor
Peranders,
No, that wasn't the point. I just figured if the price got to where I could get 6 boards for almost the same price as 4, I would buy them.

To be honest, I like to have PCB's and accompanying documentation to study and learn from. I rarely buy just one set of pcb's for any project I am interested in. I have almost always built at least one set of the PCB's that I buy, but I do hold onto the "extras" for a rainy day or something. ;) I rarely put each of the different projects into a chassis and totally finish them, unless it's something I really like. That part is just too expensive.
Building and listening to the different circuits is really fun to me and I am always learning something from each of them. I hope to feel confident enough to design something other people might enjoy someday, but until then it's kind of like electronics art to me. Someone created this from scratch and I was lucky enough to participate in it.
I admit it, I'm an electronics junkie! ;) haha
Although I DO actually build stuff in addition to the collecting. :)

Thanks,
Donovan

P.S. I am in the process of finishing Thomas's DAC v3, two of Pavel's PA-03s, and two channels of the KSA-100 MKII I got pcbs for a while ago. I just need to find heatsink tunnels or something for the Krell clone as I believe I want to put this one into a chassis.
ACD
Now we only 12 pcb's short from the needed 50 pcs.
Please place your order before Februrary 25 th.

Remember that this is a ONE TIME Group Buy !!
gary s
Hi Jan

Have added my order to the Wiki list. You now have orders for 50 PCB's. You should be happy with that.

Best Regards

Gary..
ACD
That good for all ;)
Maybe we can reach 100 pcs., and get them a bit cheaper :)
peranders
I'm sure you can reach 100 pcs. if you give the list a week or so.
tinitus
I think Jan has studied very many good amps...and with the care and time he has spent on this amp, I am certain its a good solid design...and I use these power transistors in another amp, and I can only say its VERY tough, and good sounding...the best I have heard yet :)
pedroskova
Put me down for 2. Count to 56.

I'll buy 4 boards instead of 2. The grand total of the boards at the time before I made the updating should be 86 instead of 82 as noted on the Wiki page. I'm glad that someone's math is poorer than me! :D :D :D
ACD
I have today sent a confirmation email to those I have email contact information on.

If you have ordered boards in the Wiki, and haven't received this email from me, then I'm missing your email address in my log.
If so, then please email me so I can contact you when the Group Buy ends.

Thanks for the interest ;)

Hi Jan

Good on you Jan. Keep up the good work.

Count is now up to 107 boards, anyone not signed up yet should get in as this is a very rock solid design.

Hi Jan,

I have signed up for 2 PCB's.

I just signed up for 2 boards on the WIKI. Thanks for putting this group buy together as well as writing a Quick Assembly guide.
ACD
Several has asked me question regarding Rail Voltages for this LYNX Amp.

I can inform you that I run my Amps on +/-42 to +/-50 VDC (toroid 2x30 to 2x35 VAC, 300W per PCB).

I know many who uses higher voltages (with the onboard Current Limiting circuit disconnected), however I see no point in that as the SOA (Safe Operating Area) for the output devices then is easily reached :hot:

And last a warning!
Many have over the years emailed me with the same problem;
The driver transistors MJE15032/MJE15033 blows up when powered up first time....
I did also experience this in the beginning, until I realised that my MJE's was fakes !!! Trashed them all!
The original MJE's will NOT blow up! These transistors are perfect for this job, and used in many designs.

;)
gary s
Hi Jan

Thanks for the timely information. Let's hope everyone heeds your advice.

Regards

Gary..
chalo
jan.

Can I use 2sc4793/2sa1837 in place of mje´s, as long as
2sc5200/2sa1943 for the output?

And what other options of opamp would work here?
opa 2134?

with the rails voltage you suggested what is the expected output?

Thanks and sorry for so much questions!;)

Regards.

OBS.
The WIKI totals 105 right now! Ragnwald and WJH are not on the WIKI list. Wonder what WIKI they signed up in.
If you are right and those two guys signed up, the total should be 111? Just wondering....

Edit. Oh, WJH just made it to the list, so total is now 107.
