What schottky for rectifing 5-9v supply - Click HERE for Original Thread

Ok get yourself some schottyky`s they said.... There are only 500 different ones!

I`m building a 5 and 9 volt supply for a cd player, using 9v toroids, and a 15v toroid. The maximum current will not exeed 2A

What schottky`s should do the trick? Are there things I should look in to, like ...?

And another question; for the lm317, I have to use resistors, to get to 5 and 9 volt. I`m thinking of using tantaan resistors (is that in english tantal?) does that have ANY bennifits, over using other (metal film?) resistors?

The ordering of some components, gives me a headache!

tnx in advance guys.
JBL
tantalum resistor are fragile and are not recommended becaus of that.

But do they have any bennifits over other resistors?
JBL
Probably not, I really don't see what could be better in a tantalum resistor.

Using good quality metal film resistor is enough.

(IMO they could be worst than standard resistor but this is just my opinion)

And the schottky diodes... Which ones should ik use? I have no idea what to look for.

I use MBR10100.

I use a lot of 1N5822's. They are 3A, 40 volt devices which should be readily available. At 1 A the voltage drop is about .4 volts. I have never had any troubles with them.

I think metal film resistors will be quite adequate. No need to go overboard with an op amp circuit.
