Mini-Group-Buy: Vishay-Roederstein MKP1837 bypass capacitors - Click HERE for Original Thread
luvdunhill
Forum Moderators: please move to an appropriate place...

I am organizing a mini-group-buy for Vishay-Roederstein MKP1837 capacitors. This are not readily available here in the US and the source I've used in the past is going through Newark which charges a fee as they then turn around and source the parts from Farnell. With the plunging dollar, this method will be cheaper than ordering direct from Farnell and having an overseas friend forward the parts my way.

Here are the available values and prices per piece:

0.010uF/160V $0.512
0.015uF/160V $0.522
0.022uF/160V $0.533
0.033uF/160V $1.290
0.047uF/160V $0.631
0.068uF/160V $0.704
0.100uF/160V $0.796

Price breaks are at 250 per value. If we get close to these numbers, I'll let everyone know and we can re-ante up then.

Here are a few references:

http://www.humblehomemadehifi.com/Cap.html
http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/75260.pdf

At the moment, I will be requiring a $25 minimum order. The $15 handling fee as well as the shipping from Newark to me will be divided among the participants. Then figure a few bucks for shipping via USPS to your house. Then there is PayPal fees.... I will most likely do a two stage payment, so to start all you'll be responsible is for your "kit" :)

I have dealt with a number of people on this forum, and I'm sure they would be willing to vouch for me. I can provide additional references outside of this forum if need be as well.

I will be keeping this group buy open for a week, as I have already collected some money and don't want to keep people waiting. If we get close to the 250 price break, I may extend the group buy to see if we can hit that target and save people some money.

Thank you and don't hesitate to contact me!

I'm planning on closing this mini-GB this weekend, so get your orders in!

I pm'd you about this a while back and didn't hear a reply and then lost the thread. I would be in for 50 of the .01mF

Did you note that these are actually a different model than Tony Gee talks about on his site? These are 160V and the ones he uses are 100V. I don't know that that will make a difference, but there it is.

I will take 40pcs of 0.100uF/160V

The capacitors are rated to 160 VDC / 100 VAC. I'm sure he's quoting the 100 VAC number.

Hi,

Please add me to the list.

I need:

20 of the 0.010uF/160V @ $0.512 = $10.24

12 of the 0.022uF/160V @ $0.533 = $6.40

12 of the 0.047uF/160V @ $0.631 = $7.57

20 of the 0.100uF/160V @ $0.796 = $15.92

64 pieces for $40.13 plus shipping, handling and PayPal.

Thank you for doing this. I was wondering how to get these in small amounts!

on the 0.1uF and 0.01uF values, which are the most popular, we'll need to hit 188 then I can order 250 for the same price :D I will distribute the "free" devices in proportion to everyone's order, assuming the total ordered is less than 250. If we're at 250+ then I can apply the difference towards your shipping.

At the moment, we're at:

(150) 0.01uF
(90) 0.1uF
KP11520
OK,

I will add 4 more of each 0.1 and 0.01. I know it isn't much but hopefully it will help!

I NOW need:

24 of the 0.010uF/160V @ $0.512 = $12.29

12 of the 0.022uF/160V @ $0.533 = $6.40

12 of the 0.047uF/160V @ $0.631 = $7.57

24 of the 0.100uF/160V @ $0.796 = $19.10

72 pieces for $45.36 plus shipping, handling and PayPal.

Payment using the PayPal formula will be sent in a few minutes!

Thanks!

Hi luvdunhill,

Pls save me:

44 of the 0.100uF/160V @ $0.796 = $35.024

10 of the 0.010uF/160V @ $0.512 = $5.12

54 pieces for $40.144 plus shipping, handling and PayPal.

How much is shipping and handling to Waycross GA so I can pay via paypal ?

Thanks!

Luvdunhill,

If I understand it correctly, the part will be purchased outside US correct?

I just want to warn you if in case you are not aware of the US custom policy on the amount of incoming items from abroad.

I had an experienced when I ordered Amp kit from 41Hz worth around US$400. and it took several months to get the units.
The custom representative was initially asking for my phone number and later the copy of my income tax.

I told them forget it, I will not provide anything to them and told them to return the package to 41Hz and they did after several months.

I will be getting these parts through the US-based company Newark who will order them from Farnell due to their partnership. I have done this many times in the past and have had no additional fees other than the $15.00 per order surcharge. Thanks for the concern though!
jacco vermeulen
Marc,

if i order 1000 of the 0.100uF Roederstein MKP1837 from Farnell overhere they still charge $1.55 each.

Silly me, but if you indirectly order them from Farnell as well, why are you charged half that rate ?
Not a currency conversion mix-up thingy ?
luvdunhill
jacco:

you're a sharp guy :) I will look into it and check my old receipts.
jacco vermeulen
Or i'm dumb but know what MKP1837s cost and sound like longer than Mr Ma-Gee knows how they taste.

Peter Daniel
Price will also depend on tolerance.

What is quoted in first post for 0.01uF is about right and that's what I was paying when they were in stock, but Mouser price for 0.1uF at 1000pcs is $1.20/pc (1%)
Garytr
Please add me to the list,
.01uf /160v :50 pcs x .512 =$25.60
Gary
jacco vermeulen
The only cheaper source for the 0.1uF/160V overhere is RS, wholesaler to companies, at $1.09/pc
(1000, including 19% sales tax)
rolandong
jacco,

does vishay MKP1837 sounds better than epco mkp ?
jacco vermeulen
epco mkp ?

The Roederstein MKP1837 equals an EMZ B33531.
The B33531 number is Siemens, EMZ bought the production gear for this cap series, the Siemens cap division is Epcos nowadays.
Much better than the 10nF mkp1837 is a KS series, but only to 63V and i'm just about the only one who has them in biggy numbers.

We have (384) 0.01uF paid for and (472) 0.10uF paid for. I have reserved 500 of each from Newark as of last Friday.

Total numbers committed for thusfar are (532) 0.01uF and (862) 0.10uF. I will call and look into further discounts for you guys tomorrow, so stay tuned.

I didn't expect things to take off this much, so I'll have to see where we are.

If there's time- I'd like 20 pieces .01 at .512 = $10.24. 12 pieces.022 at .533 = $6.40 And 20 pieces .100 at .796= 15.92. If my math is correct, it comes to $32.56 before paypal and your expenses. Please let me know total, can send paypal or direct. Thanks for arranging this- appreciate this forum and all involved.
Maousse
luvdunhill : may be you should put an end at a "round" number, like 500 lots or 1000 lots?
luvdunhill
I'm dreading the e-mail traffic from this response, but you'll be glad to know that the first 500 0.1uF and 500 0.01uF have been shipped (I just talked with Newark)! Looks like we're a go, despite the nay-sayer Jacco. At this point, the final price is:

$0.370 for the 0.01uF
$0.576 for the 0.10uF

This doesn't including the shipping cost to me and Farnell fee, but that will be rather trivial with so many participants. Once I have a final invoice, I'll disclose these costs :) The final cost may change slightly, but the above is a good estimate that unfortunately (for me) may err on the low side. Again, all will be made right when the final shipping amounts go out.

Now, if you have already ordered either one of these denominations, you have two options. The first, apply the credit to you final shipping (preferred and default if I don't hear from you) or have me adjust your quantities and ... GET MORE CAPS! :D

You must respond to me and state a preference before Wednesday, December 19th at 8:00AM CST, because that's when I'll be placing the remaining order as well as the other sizes. Thus the group buy will be CLOSED then.

Thanks everyone!

Just as a quickie reference : the 1990 rate for buying a single of the 0.1uF/100Vdc predecessor of the KP1837 at Burklin-Germany was $0.572 at the current exchange rate
=> 0.4 $-cent difference (17 years later and 160V parts, <+3$c at the early '90 exchange rate )

yup... we are nowhere near enough for the other denominations.

If you haven't paid yet, you can use the new value (I guess the "last will be first" in this instance). Just multiply by 1.03 (or add 3%) to get your total and send me this amount and I'll let you know what you owe when shipping time comes.

I will be adding 25% more caps to the people who vote for more caps. The actual difference is 1 - (0.370 / 0.512) = 27.7% for the 0.01uF and similarly 1 - (0.576 / 0.796) = 27.6% for the 0.10uF. I'll truncate the decimal part and apply the change to your shipping.

For example, if you ordered (20) 0.10uF and (20) 0.01uF, Santa will be sending you 25 of each

Also, the first batch of 500 0.1uF and 500 0.01uF has shipped and I have a confirmed PO number from Newark. :smash:

I started looking into the International postal rates...

I can send up to 4 pounds via Priority Mail International for $9.00 Canada / Mexico and $11.00 all other countries. Honestly, this would be easiest for me as the post office provides all the mailing supplies, etc. and it will be quickest to get to you.

The only other feasible option is First-Class (rate charts by country are here):

http://pe.usps.com/text/Imm/immctry.htm

When the time comes, I'll ask you to choose one or the other. I have no idea for example how much 100 capacitors will weigh, but in Jacco's case (Netherlands), it would have to be less than 16 ounces for first-class to be more cost effective than the Priority Mail International option.

Take care!

Group Buy is now CLOSED.

Thanks everyone for participating! Once I receive the first batch of capacitors, I will start invoicing you for shipping if need be.

I purchased some extra 0.01uF and 0.10uF capacitors and would be willing to sell them at a markup from the original group buy. Please contact me for details.

If you have not sent me money at this point, your order has been canceled. I'm so sorry, but I had to draw the line somewhere. I will post final ordered quantities sometime today and please double-check things for me and we can shuffle the numbers around if we need to.

Group Buy is now CLOSED.

If I have messed anything up (and I probably have) I'll try my best to rectify things. However, you have 24 hours to speak your grievances, then the above numbers are set in stone.
